unless you're apple, google, msft or amazon sitting on mountains of cash, that's not how businesses work. especially not media, especially a media and entertainment company that has been losing money for years to cord cutting, and lost damn near all revenue this year from lack of movie releases, sports, closed parks and cruises...
Has Disney/ESPN lost money or are they not making profits at prior scale?

COVID has been brutal for Disney as a whole and in turn that will in turn effect ESPN as well. There’s also the issue that television rights are coming up in the next few years so they are cutting salary in preparation for that.

They are likely going to have to drop the bag to keep MNF.

Between MNF and paying $1.4 billion per year for the NBA from 2016-2025 :damn:

Don’t know about the ratings for Key and Jay ... they just are sorely , sorely unpolished . And it becomes glaringly evident as the hours roll along. It’d be ok if they were entertaining ... but they’re NOT ENTERTAINING EITHER :damn:
Yeah idk what they were thinking putting two guys who are only good in small doses together to carry a show. :heh:

Prob got em at a low cost compared to counterparts.

Glad I got a local morning show to listen to.

I do think Jay could be good radio if he were paired with someone else tho, as obnoxious as he can be at times.

all of these networks gonna hit a singularity point where they just collapse if they aren't careful. by the same token, I think some of these sports might need to reconsider their value, at least as far as TV deals go. CFB is having in-person viewership drop like a rock. NBA Finals viewership is falling year over year. NFL gonna be NFL. Baseball's a joke. Unless some of these sports start supplying their own natl TV production, I feel like they're going to have the rug slip out on em before long

There is talk that Disney might spin off ESPN as a separate company or sell it outright. I think the later is more probable. Sports is getting too expensive and ad revenue doesn't seem to make up the difference.
