Lol the article has very little to do with usage rate, and more to do with the value of the 3 vs the value of the mid-range where Fat Iverson usually operates from. Essentially you can't be an inefficient chucker who shoots alot of mid range shots in today's NBA.

Exactly. I dont know why this thread devolved into some bullshyt about Bron and Harden being ball hogs. Thats not the point of the article.

The only thing in the article that I really disagreed with was the idea that smaller scorers like Donovan Mitchell were being curtailed when Carmelo came into the league.

Iverson, Payton, Starbury, Stevie Franchise, and Arenas were all elite 20+ ppg scorers when Carmelo came into the NBA, and none of them relied heavily on the three-ball to do it. You could be a small guy and still get buckets in the key back then.

Prime Gilbert Arenas was a very modern player, he took averaged 7 threes a game...and averaged 9 free throw attempts a game...

He was like the first James Harden

:ehh:

Washed for his status, yeah...
No not just for his status but in general. The conversation isn’t about his legacy it’s about the league passed him by and hows he never evolved with it. Vince Carter at 40 is way more valuable than melo because he changed with the game

cacs are killing the game with this analytic shyt. Every shot will be a three or a layup in 10 years.

This is dumb, the point of the game is to outscore your opponent. NBA scoring today is far more efficient than at any point in nba history. How is that “killing the game”. If you don’t like it stop watching.

Worthwhile point. Though when Melo came into the league Arenas was already averaging 18.3ppg while only hitting 1.3 threes/game, so he could still score without threes.

fukking stupid. They're really trying to diminish the mid range jumpshot, which is a easier & higher percentage shot than a fukking 3.

I can't stand this analytical bullshyt in basketball
You’re better off shooting 33% from deep than 40% from mid range :manny:. If you’re still designing your offense around that shot in 2018, you’re getting left behind.

I don't know why the article named him a ballhog without using anything regarding usage rates and assist metrics.

The title is essentially clickbait.

However, it is correct in saying that midrange scorers are basically dinosaurs in today's PnR, ball movement, 3-heavy offensive game.

And honestly that sucks because the midrange players through NBA history have been the most fun to watch just because of the variety of their offensive skill.
