The psychological aspect to it. It was obvious that Duran didn't like Leonard. And in the 1st fight he felt disrespected and wanted to stick it to Leonard. He fought angry. Leonard was overwhelmed. Duran won. Leonard was second guessing himself. The tables basically turned in the 2nd fight and Leonard basically got into Duran's head. From having the rematch early when Duran was partying and gaining weight to the actually fight where he was dancing and throwing bolo punches. Duran was pissed and embarrassed and basically said fukk this I beat him before I don't need to deal with this shyt.
I'm not trying to "protect" Duran. I just feel the No Mas fight (while I don't condone quitting) was made more than it should. I mean you have people that try to discredit Duran and act like his 1st win didn't count. You have people that make ignorant comments like if somebody made a hypothetical match of Duran vs Mayweather. People would be like "he quit against Leonard, Floyd would make him quit too". Like he quit because he was getting his ass kicked
It was a close fight still. Wilfred Benitez schooled Duran, and he didn't quit then. Which shows it's deeper than just boxing.
IDK, I just think Duran is one of the greatest fighters ever, and it seems that everything he's done gets thrown out the window due to people's ignorant/misinformed views of the No Mas fight. So yea, I get a little salty cuz of that :kanye2:
I don't excuse it, but I don't hold it against him like everybody else does
