That shyt was an era man

It’s a shame all the dudes besides The Professor were too old to really capitalize on social media cause they were all stars back then.

NBA players pulling up to the park to get run in and show off their bag. They not doing it like that anymore but also nobody really even plays outside anymore. Chris Paul built us an outdoor court so nice they put it in a NBA Street game and I took some of my college and work friends out there to play during covid since all the gyms were closed and it wasn’t anybody getting run in. Just smoking blunts on the sideline. The hoop culture is just different now and not as fun.

I can't disagree (a million reasons as to why) but places like Dyckman Park keep that spirit going. That place has only grown in popularity while all these other places (like Rucker Park) aren't as big as they used to be.

Streetball will only continue to be as big as the players who come from it and we've discussed on this board plenty how players don't get developed in the hood anymore. The minute anyone shows talent they get shipped off to prep schools away from that environment. Jelly Fam tried but only one of them actually amounted to being anything in the league.

:to: The 00's streetball era was wild ignorant but I have some of my fondest hoops memories from that era. nikkas hooping in durags, XXL t-shirts, and carrying. :russ:

When you actually hit the The Boomerang for the first time :wow:

Headache & Alimoe were criminally underrated. And RIP to Big Escalade.

Dude was glue that kept everyone together, especially as they started to grow in popularity and egos begin getting involved. The ESPN deal was a blessing for those involved at the time, but it was low-key the beginning of the end. Rumors of guys throwing games for AND1 under the table (you can't have your attraction being beaten by a random coalition of hoopers) and the Hollywood format removed the grit from it, which was largely the chief appeal in the first place.

Still, Before I ever had a hoop to shoot on, I only had the basketball my pops had given me, so I would spend hours doing nothing other than dribbling. Used to record And1 episodes and practice those moves daily and when the internet started taking off, I had even more access. Next to Iverson, streetball in general was almost chiefly responsible for sparking my love of the game. If you were heavy into streetball, you knew of Dime55, too.

They used to put out "mixtapes" every other week and low-key had some moves colder than a lot of AND1s.

I still remember Tru Baller & Hot Sauce beefing on some Ja & 50 shyt.

:russ:

I was a big tru baller fan. He was a real hooper to me even though he was flashy. I know he played D1 ball. Hot sauce was more a gimmick even he had some exciting moves. Tru baller was just born too soon he wouldve made a lot of money in this youtube hooper era

They better not try to make the whiteboy Professor the "face" of this shyt.

I watched some And1 documentary a few years ago (narrated by a whiteboy) and he pretty much made The Professor the face of it.
Breh you obviously never watched professor… All them and1 mixtape cats said Professor got busy.. No politics or nothing, dude got on the court and caught wreck.. he’s as much part of and1 as the rest
