Nah i'm talking about that decade or more long gap between respectable black television until shonda rhimes popped up
you mean to tell me you get why they just said "nah, we don't need black programming like before"
again, just going by what Erika Alexander SAID in this interview...surely you aren't suggesting you know better that HER and this is her career
What happened to the Black sitcoms of the 90s is what happened to the Black films of the early to mid 70s. Literally, the exact same thing..
The difference is that whereas the 70s films SAVED the major film studios, the 90s era tv shows helped create and sustain the new tv networks. In both cases, once the companies got their financial footing, they moved on to something else.
If it was to CAC media and c00ns telling Hip Hop, there would be NWA, Death Row Tupac, BIG, portion of Wu Tang, and anything from Jay-Z forward. They would forget about KRS One, Public Enemy, Rakim, X-Clan, Nas, and so forth.
Ask a random Hip Hop head under 25, what do they know about Public Enemy, KRS, Rakim, and so on. Other young followers of every other genre know the OGs, but Hip Hop is cool to shyt on, or erase, the contributions of the past.
Whats to know.....he a light bright.
Dude has said multiple times that he is black and spoken on black issues for years.
This. No sympathy for bedwench tears. They get temporarily pro black if it means more money or more roles. Marry your husband because you liked the way he ordered a drink bedwenchettes.lol thecoli must not know about her husband.
That has everything to do with the ignorance our own history. Whether it's pop culture or actual historical figures.
There's people that don't know who Miles Davis is. There's people who don't know who Mansa Musa is.
It's up to the older generations to put the younger people on to our historical figures.
With music for example, too many of us like to throw away our history and label the old music "dusty"
Nah, that's a Hip Hop thing. If you claim that you follow Rock music and don't fukk with Jimi Herndrix or Freddy Mercury, you would legit get jumped or beaten to death at a Rock concert. If you a Jazz follower and never cared to follow Miles Davis, you could be banned from many Jazz clubs permanently. Every genre but Hip Hop, there are gateways to their culture and a direct violation to that has dire consequences.
That has everything to do with the ignorance our own history.
There's people that don't know who Miles Davis is. There's people who don't know who Mansa Musa is.
It's up to the older generations to put the younger people on to our historical figures.
That has nothing to do with I said about black people throwing away and ignoring our own history. Like I stated previously:
That's a microcosm of black culture today, disregarding the old and focusing on the now.
After 9/11, it was all about reality TV and expanding VIACOM. This was the time when independent thought or distribution was OVER. That was why BET was sold to white folks and MTV stopped playing actual music videos. They double down on the flashy/ cartoon gangsta one-dimensional characters on music and TV because they wanted to have "universal appeal."
Do you think that is when the New World Order came thru ? On some illuminati shyt..?.. Ya Got my tin foil hat on lol.
