It's just wild tho considering their beautiful campus. It's right across the street from BelAir, not far from Beverly Hills, great weather.

I know they have successful alum

Hazards of being a California State School with budget guidelines. Plus they alumni is dormant right now, they really need to get them going

The stadium isn’t on campus which kills its ability to get students to the game. Having Big Ten teams there will help but I don’t know if it will be a big impact.

How is that even possible

They don’t have a collective
Cowherd was talking about it last week

NCAA President Charlie Baker announced a plan to begin a NIL program that would affect all the Division I teams. The idea would be to create a new competitive tier of that would be for NIL athletes.

This program would then pay student-athletes $30,000 annually. Though it would be a revolutionary plan that could backfire, it could benefit the UCLA Bruins. The team currently has no NIL program, and Stewart Mandel of The Athletic believes that could be a big reason why the football team will not succeed under Chip Kelly.

I don’t know how they looked at what happened in Arizona and think, kliff the right dude for the job

Honestly I really just think the priority for some owners is to hire coaches they want to have dinner with hangout with versus the dude who could get the job done

Like what did they see at usc to give him another shot, and I’m not saying hire eb if you don’t want to but why recycle kliff
Kliff got the young white new-age offensive mind thing going for him. Even with his bad track record he's still going to get opportunities because he looks like Great Value Shanahan.

He means they don’t have a good NIL package. UCLA not the type of school to go all on that shyt maybe for bball.

The school itself has plenty of dough I’m sure. But they focused on academics purely.
Yeah I think that’s part of it, they leaning heavily into that public ivy league perception, UCLA football ain’t a huge priority.

A real shame, there’s no reason they should not be very competitive

It's always been like that though. Academic requirements for athletes are harder than USC's.

shyt, before that huge Under Armour deal they got years back (which ended up getting cancelled) they used to practice on an 80 yard field :dead: They finally built a state of the art practice facility some years ago but yeah UCLA has never really prioritized going ALL IN on sports. Even for basketball they have a prestigious program but when have you seen them hire a prestigious coach?

You're right, the Public Ivy League status is more important and thats not even a bad thing in the grand scheme. Their location and big name status is ripe for a big time sports investment though.

They're not a Cal State School like Fresno State, San Diego State, Long Beach State, etc. They part of the University of California school system.. UCLA, UC Berkley, UC Irvine, etc. UCLA is a rich prideful traditional monied up school. Not sure what their football budget is, but the school is far from broke. Its more of their athletics program being ran into the ground.

Low key I bet UCLA would love for him to bolt to another school. He's a hard azz(n/h) tyrant and no local LA or national high school star wants to play for him at all.

They still have budgets to adhere to unless they have sizeable endowments from the alumni that are specifically for the sports program, and apparently right now they missing that. The sports program posted like a 35 million dollar debt last year. Same reason why Cals football program is falling apart as well

Bad coaching hires, especially for basketball. Plus the football programs has to give kick backs to fellow UC school Cal Berkeley for leaving them hi and dry and bolting to the Big Ten.
