The one thing I struggle with is the male to male affection. I will be walking down the street and just be dying on the inside watching two men holding hands. I don't think I will ever be okay with that lol.

Anyways, my question: How do you turn down food/coffee respectfully in Ethiopian culture? I don't want to be rude but I'm afraid of getting sick over here. btw, i LOVE shiro! I could eat that with tibbs all day every day.

1. I was born and raised in America so I'm with you, they always gon look super sus in my eyes no matter what excuses nikkaz give me about differences in culture. They be on some wild mango shyt. :scusthov:

2. lmfao, you better lie your ass off or tell em you aren't feeling too well because of something you ate earlier. I didn't get sick eating over there though, the Injera was actually way better over there but I wasn't bold enough to eat the raw meat like that do I can only do that in America.

why yall holding onto the Ogaden? :childplease:

whyd they have to kill the homie sandman negus? :to:

whats muslim-christian relations like? :ohhh:

1. Because the Somalis are holding on to Zelia and Berbera. :mjpls:

2. Gang shyt, that nikka deserved to blow up in the game. :sadcam:

3. Not that bad actually, of course both sides champion their respective faiths but Ethiopians take pride in the harmony between the faiths amidst intolerance in most of their neighboring countries. Christians are dead set on never letting Islam take over the country but also understand that being intolerant towards Muslims that just want to practice their faith is unreasonable. Muhammad's birthday is an official holiday in Ethiopia and celebrated by all but especially Muslims and the real religious Ethiopians are pretty well versed in both the Bible and Koran. Christian Ethiopians HATE the extra strict fundamentalist wahabism style Islam though, the women in particular scoff when they see Ethiopian Muslim women covering themselves from head to toe when that's never been a part of the Islamic culture in Ethiopia. My Muslim relatives don't do that, but it's starting to be more common for Ethiopian women that practice Islam to be fully covered when we've never been strict on those things and are generally into women's rights.

I know Selassie gave some land to the rastas from Jamaica and after he got ran out or whatever, the govt took a bunch of it back.

as a Jamaican, if I wanted to claim a piece of land over there, can I or do I have to be a ras?

What are Ethiopian views on Jamaica/Rasta culture?

Do you see Ethiopia returning to its former glory?

How much of a genetic imprint did Ethiopians leave on Yemen and Saudi Arabia?

What are some good books on the Axumite Empire?

Do you find it strange that Cars and smartphones are something East Africa or Africa in general have not focused on...just something I've been thinking about....out of everyone...I mean South Korea is killing it with Samsung....Germany as always with Volkswagon, Porsche,etc....

I know we are behind in everything but in particular cars/smartphones is something I've been thinking about....U noticed that shyt :patrice:

Anyway the question is do you think we should buckle down and try to get in that field?
Africa is heavy on the smartphone game... they skipped all that landline shyt

1. As far as I know they didn't take the land back but I could be wrong I never really asked. You don't have to be Ras to repatriate there's a bunch of yall in Shashamane, it helps tho because that land was given to Caribbean blacks of the Rasta faith in particular but you can catch white Rastas there too. Meeting yaads that speak Amharic fluently was the most beautiful moment for me in Ethiopia. They really want more Rastas to come and build up the community, the stories of some of them is just amazing I have the utmost respect for Shashamane's Rastas cuz they truly struggled to have things in the country and they are actively trying to help the indigenous population out rather than separating or taking advantage of them.

2. Ethiopians generally like the culture especially younger generations to us Bob Marley is that mothafukkin nikka. Jamaican expats and deportees have schools and businesses in Ethiopia they usually teach English, eat ital, and smoke herb. My uncle was a hardcore nazarene Rasta for 30 years he introduced me to Bob Marley(him and my other uncle actually cool with the Marleys), Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Marcus Garvey, etc, my mom thought it was weird because my uncle was alive during Haile Selassie's time and knew he wasn't a god. Ethiopians that are conscious have an extremely deep respect for Rastas.

Some of the older generation don't like it much because its blasphemous to them to consider H.I.M. a god but they still revere him because of his Solomonic ties nonetheless so it's respected. Some of the Orthodox priests and especially monks rock dreads and uncut beards so game recognize game. The Lion of Judah flag is illegal in Ethiopia unless you're in Shashamane or in duty free at the airport because it represents the Imperial family so Rastas can't just freely rock that shyt unless they are in designated areas.

Do you see Ethiopia returning to its former glory?

How much of a genetic imprint did Ethiopians leave on Yemen and Saudi Arabia?

What are some good books on the Axumite Empire?

1. Hard to say, Ethiopia has been a victim of geopolitics from all angles because of it's location. I think Ethiopia can return to it's former glory but it's going to have to start with an educated and united population. I'm not a fan of the current politics because it feels like balkanization, it's very tribe oriented and it emphasizes our differences rather than our unity as Ethiopians. More expats and children of the diaspora are moving back to build things up, the elections in 2015 will be big in finding out what direction the country goes it can either go up or down.

2. Quite a substantial one imo, we populated the Arabian peninsula along with other groups. Yemenis in particular share a close tie with us since Axum ruled over Yemen and parts of Arabia, even today you'll find dark skinned Yemenis whose ancestors were those Axumite Ethiopians that lived there.

3. Not enough is known about the Axumite Empire for a book, scholars just barely scratched the surface in regards to Ethiopian archeology. I'd probably start with books on Ethiopian history since they all talk about Axum but if you still need one that discusses Axum in particular then
I only recommend that book because I've seen it cited in lots of things regarding Axum, I hope you bout that cert life. :patrice:

I wasn't referring to in terms of just designing....I mean in terms of getting it on a national level....

Imagine a smartphone or car by the name of "Axum" that is on the level of Mazda in terms of notoriety :wow:

OP....

1. Do you feel sad Kobe will never ever win a championship again and that Lebron will win at least 3 more before the end of the decade? How do East Africans feel about Kobe marrying out of his race? Are the Lakers destined to not win another championship until 2040? Are these Laker questions making you want to punch me in my mouth?

2. How can an intelligent person be a fan of Camron like yourself

3. Do you think there needs to be an African Union since the EU does not have our best interests at heart?

4. I think it was @Speak To The Mods who spoke about how the different way Math is taught iin Africa compared to America...do u have specific examples of how differently it is taught and what we can do as African Americans to improve our skills in that area.

5. Your full uncensored thoughts on the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative?

I LOVE spicy food! But my stomach didn't like it very much that night lol

lol, next time drink sprite or seltzer water that helps. If you still can't take the spiciness then get the vegetarian dishes that aren't spicy.

5. Your full uncensored thoughts on the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative?

1. Nah I wouldn't punch you in the mouth my team been hijacked by a cokehead anyway, I watched the Lakers win 5 titles so I ain't trippin. I think Kobe can win 1 more if the front office doesn't dikk around. It remains to be seen if LeBron will win another 3 like you're saying, it could happen but then again anything can happen. East Africans don't give a fukk about Kobe marrying out of the race. Lakers is the GOAT franchise it's impossible for them to go without a title for that long.

2. Because Killa Cam a.k.a. fleadagawd a.k.a. King Jaffe Joe is the last great Hip Hop artist. You'd be surprised how smart his lyrics are if you pay attention. I listen to E-40 too, so I'm o different shyt like that. I hate the stereotype that every intelligent brotha listens to nothin but neo-soul type rappers. I love Blackstar but if you made me choose I'ma bang 36 or Boosie and Webbie.

3. Yes, I'm a staunch Pan Africanist. African unity and self determination is important in the success of the continent. People like Nkrumah, Sankara, and Lumumba are my African political heroes. Haile Selassie is a tremendous symbol for my people and I admire him but he wasn't as far along as those two were. Unfortunately that had as much to do with the political atmosphere around him, but he ruined what was left of our relationship with Eritrea a part of me will never accept our separation cuz so much of my fam is Eritrean and I'm part Eritrean myself. Selassie didn't ruin things as badly as that faggit, fake ass socialist Mengistu Haile Mariam did tho.

4. I have no idea cuz I ain't go to school in Africa. Ethiopians and Eritreans(especially them) are real good at math tho. My dad used to punish me when I acted bad by making me do math problems on sunny days, this was after he beat my ass of course.

5. It's a nice gesture, but doesn't get to the root of the issue. It's basically a program to help get young brothas aa little inclusion in a racist system. My Brother's Keeper doesn't solve the root causes at all. Obama has always been on his no excuses bootstraps steeze so I never took him serious with these kinda things. I pay more attention to what him and Holder are doin with these drug laws and the sentencing. They lookin to get rid of mandatory minimums for non violent drug offenders, THAT is what I consider being your brother's keeper.

since u have a preference for african american women, what be going thru ur head when u see african american men big up foreign black women like east & west african women?

I understand it men always like women they perceive as exotic. It's a change of pace for brothas to meet African chicks because they have different values than they're used to. I just feel bad that they take AA women for granted, especially if the sista is a real catch. For the record, I rate all black women equally because I treasure different qualities about each of them if she got that sexy skin tone and body I'm automatically sprung. I just put AAs on the top because I've had my most successful relationships with them and I love their personalities. If she bad, got that natural hair, well read, and got a little of that sass I'm just :noah: over her. Southern AA women in particular remind me so much of African woman in terms of what they do for they man I love them so much. Brothas don't know what they got, me and my uncles do tho. Funny enough, sistas do the same thing when they meet African nikkaz so it go both ways. :ehh:
