"Empire" Premiere Gets 1.3 Million Tweets (Most Ever For TV Show); Anika's Twerk Was Most Tweeted Item

'Empire' Premiere Gets 1.3 Million Tweets

Fox's musical drama isn't just a hit on television; it's also making a bit impact on Twitter.

The second-season premiere of Empire became the most tweeted one-hour episode of scripted broadcast TV ever (excluding sports or special events) on Wednesday, Sept. 23, with 1.3 million tweets sent while the episode aired, according to Nielsen's Twitter ratings. In all, 296,500 people were responsible for the more than 1.3 million tweets, which were seen by 4.7 million people a total of 63 million times.

There's more:

The most tweeted moment of Empire's premiere was when Anika (Grace Gealey) began to dance with Empire' newest financier, Mimi (Marisa Tomei) -- a moment that propelled 32,363 tweets per minute.

'Empire' season 2 episode 2 spoilers: Will Jamal turn against Lucious?

1443311512_empire.jpg

Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) is likely to capture all the attention of the viewers when "Empire" returns on Fox with the second episode of season 2 titled "Without a Country" on Wednesday, 30 September.

The sequel will introduce fans to the gradual character change for Lucious' (Terrence Howard) son as he decides to take his responsibilities more seriously. Towards the end of the episode Smollett's character might turn out to be the next badass in the show.

In the premiere episode, the followers of the music drama saw Jamal struggling to find time for music. He even gets angry with Cookie (Taraji P Henson) when she tells him to get back home immediately. But everything will change once the talented gay-singer decides to take the company to new heights.

The official synopsis of "Without a Country" read: "In Lucious' absence, Jamal neglects his music and makes business moves that further his journey towards becoming every bit as ruthless as his father".

So chances for Smollett's character to follow in the footsteps of his mother and move against his father cannot be ignored. But things might turn against the new CEO of Empire Entertainment after the hip hop mogul records an epic track from inside jail.

On the other hand, Cookie and her cohorts decide to start their own small record label in the second episode of "Empire" season 2. But it's off to a bumpy start as everyone has different visions for the new label.

For instance, Hakeem decides to form a girl group as his first project for the new company and woos a hot Latina lead singer (guest star Becky G), proving that he can be more than just an artist.

Meanwhile, fans of the popular Fox series will also get to watch Andre Royo as the new lawyer of Lucious whom he appoints after feeling extra pressure from a bloodthirsty prosecutor.

Fox will air "Empire" season 2 episode 2 titled "Without a Country" at 9pm on Wednesday, 30 September.

:wow: I've been missing out. This show is great. Binged watched all of the first season in the last 24 hours and just saw the first episode of season 2.

The only sane character on the show to me - at least before this new season - was Jamal... and maybe Cookie.
Not sure what to think about Jamal's character given that end of the S2 E1. Was it a heel turn? Or was he justified in his actions? :jbhmm:

Also, was it Hakeem and Andre that ratted out Lucious? If so...that was some cold blooded shyt.

Also:ohlawd: :whew::damn::shaq::takedat::noah: at Anika and Tiana.

Complain about a night time soap being over the top, brehs

Exactly. Lol at simple nikkas throwing the "c00n" word around. :childplease:

I guess we all c00ns then watching a fictional television show with over dramatic actors (Terrence) with ridiculous plot and ridiculous dialogue.

Interesting how no one seems to give a shyt about

1. real housewives of Atlanta
2. Maury
3. Love and Hip hop Atl

which feature real people who act in a stereotypical fashion.

I especially have problems with Maury. That shyt is syndicated worldwide, people in countries with very few black people see black folk acting ratchet as hell on that show.

ETA Nobody gives a fukk about what Bomani Jones thinks. :camby: Stop posting his tweets.

Besides he says he is going to watch the next episode, so all that bullshyt he type was void.

So I tried to give this show a chance. I watched the first six episodes of last season....I can't believe how bad it is...

How can this show be so popular? Seriously, it's one step above a daytime soap.
Do you not understand the concept of a nighttime soap? "Empire" is a nighttime soap.
