Not only is counting streams as sales goofy for the reasons you said, but another HUGE reason is that streaming simply takes no effort. Anyone can pick up their fukkin phone and press play on something. But actually getting people to show up to the store and fork over 20 bucks for you album?

I forgot which rapper said it, but one brought it up a few years ago saying, "My album should be gold by now..". There is no way you can convince me that Illmatic, that finally went platinum in 2003, has been released and sold out in many forms the past 20 years and streamed heavily is only at 2 million unites according the sales reports.
