theres a reason he picks those beats. same reason why nas picks understated beats. they want the lyrics to be the showcase of the song

theres interviews out there with both saying this is true

I understand wanting the lyrics to stand out....but you don't need to pick horrible beats to do that...

These beats aren't "understated" though ... they're just garbage.

Em used to use minimalist production (like Drake does) ... but he hasn't since Encore.

Put my work on hold to listen to the album and i think that it's pretty good on first listen, brehs. Definitely throwing it on my phone to listen to it during tomorrow's commute. I'ma need a couple months of listening before I put MMLP2 in the Em rankings, however. I'm a big fan of Eminem, always have been. But it always annoyed me that he's never really been taken seriously, so I was hoping that this album would revive a bit of his old fanbase.

I look forward to reading Sun Zoos thoughts on it.

Furthermore, I strongly believe that the majority of niccas in this thread are exaggerating like a muhfukka. The album is good. It's definitely captured the MMLP feel. Especially the first handful of tracks. Just some random thoughts : Skyler Grey gave whats probably her most tolerable hook, Em brought that fierce energy and language back, which I felt was missing from overly apologetic Recovery and concept album experimental Relapse. That Kendrick track was a disappointment -- At first I was like :what:but overall, it's average. It reminds me of BBC on Magna Carter. It's like you have these two great rappers. Why do a track like this? Onward. Em's been shyttin on his mom since the 90s.. I felt that Headlights was a good look. To be able to throw all of that past shyt in the bushes and make amends with your mom. That was straight. Stronger Than I Was is one of those super off the wall em tracks. It's very reminscent of The Eminem Show's Hailie Song.. It's jusy foolish - which is why I fukks wit it. Brainless is ill. The singles never bothered me too much. Berserk is Em's best first single since Without Me. Survival has some cringe worthy lines, but I liked it for the guitar backing and the motivating feel. Monster, although catchy/groovy is just a typical Pop song. And Rap God :whew:

Overall, I thought the production was solid. Couple beats like a$$hole needs to be tweaked, but it's all good. Em brought that heat lyrically and the album wasn't packed to the brim with Recovery esque cringe moments. Wish Royce was on this, but yeah.. I'm satisfied. Shout out the whiteboy. :salute:

- Not feeling most of it on first listen.

- I did perk the fukk up when evil twin came on :banderas:

- I actually enjoy em's singing, I don't mind it when done right and sparingly, stronger than I was is interesting.

This would actually be my favorite song if it wasn't for a few little things that he fukked up on. It reminds me of a combination of a couple 80's rock ballads that I really love.

Like the beginning before he starts trying to get too loud with it kinda gives me that "time after time"/"glory of love" feeling.

:obama:

nikkas probably won't catch the logic behind that, i'm sure people are panning the fukk out of that song but I like it a lot actually...joints like beautiful/hallies song are all good with me, almost like dope country music when he can stay calm with the whole attempt at carrying tunes...but the extra aggressive "UNGGG" in the background...verses were on point.

:snoop:

Still, this will be the extra odd ass song that I'll fukk with for a minute, dope.

- At this point I just want the deluxe tracks, and while I never called recovery grabage, I complained about it mostly because it WASN'T relapse, and i'll stand by that being a very dope album. This shyt isn't better than recovery on first listen, much better attempts at pop/top 40 eminem music. The ability is there, the direction is not.

Stronger than I was sounds like some bad karaoke. I'm a stan who loves this album, but that song man. I don't get what Em was thinking, especially for a project like this.
