My question is, lets say hypothetically this is true, will this really have an impact on which system you choose to buy or is your mind already made up one which console you will be getting?

No, Cross game chat has been patented by Microsoft. Also using soundtracks ingame.
Sony found a loophole around that, but it would be up to the developer to incorporate it and it takes a lot of resources for them to do it from the software level (at least this gen)
I wouldn't expect it much this gen either because gamers on the SONY side are too busy being fanboys instead of demanding better (Tru Story)

These same Dev's never said the ps4 was backwards compatible. They'd know this and would speak on it
The only reason they couldn't speak on it is if it WASN'T backwards compatible. Sony would put a NDA on that until they was ready to reveal that which they will in a few weeks supposedly...

And with the 720, all that will be as one. Not one app has it, everything we watch will have us connected so you'll see real-time results of polls/etc.
How about sports? Right now you can pick who is gonna win in every sport and it keeps track of yours and your friends picks and displays that while you watch!!!

If you don't like sports, how about FOX television programming? Simpsons/American Dad, FAmily guy? Cuz everything is free on there within 24hrs of it airing on that channel

If you go to the movies/tv section besides having everything before Redbox
They often have free TV shows before they air. I'm talking almost every show that comes on ABC, NBC, CBS.. if its a bigtime show, the pilot will be on XBL a month before it airs on TV

Finally and most importantly, the fact that every popular game there is, gets patched immediately and often so the gaming experience isn't altered to benefit cheaters is well worth the $35
