I believe it. With the lack of cultural and social things to do in this disjointed city of ours, it is no wonder people get depressed. We are a pretty boring city. We also do not have a very high concentration of high paying jobs and we have a relatively high crime rate.
There is much to be happy about in Jacksonville, but I can certainly see why many people are unhappy in this city.
What could make our city happier? Get rid of last call in downtown, bring higher paying jobs, work to create more vibrant meeting areas (downtown core). Socially, Jacksonville is too conservative. We are not a fun city. It also seems that people get married and/or have kids way too early in this city, not giving young folks enough time or opportunity to experience freedom from responsibility (hence leading to future regret and possibly higher divorce rates).

Im just glad I didnt grow up in the city....I might be a different person than I am today...and prolly still living at my grandma's
alot of those traits, can be applied to any city to be honest.. Jacksonville has never boasted itself as being this big flashy city, with tons of entertainment and job growth in various sectors.. its mainly a port city, that houses alot of people from all over due to its military bases..
in closing, its what you make of it.. you can be miserable anywhere.. i moved outta there not long ago, because i was sick of complaining about it.. either you want to be there, or wanting to start making your move outta there.. all in all, its not as bad as you're making it out to be..

I'm born and raised here and don't have a problem with the city. Like I said, i'ma beach rat and life is good down there (the BEACH beach area) so I ain't have to deal with what happened over the Intercoastal bridge(s). It's not as "bad" as you're making it out to be
