People literlly joke about getting the "This HOV" text
That might've been joke, but Jay Z is sensitive about lists and rankings. I remember when he called up Shaheem Reid of MTV to discuss why Reasonable Doubt was so low on the GOAT albums list. They had it like #6. The following year, they did a GOAT rapper list and had Jay at #1. He bragged about it on Beyonce's "Deja Vu". "I ain't make the list, don't be mad at me".
They didnt add Pitbull, Lazye Bone, Buju, Ed Lover, Fredro Starr, Erick Sermon who picked Nas.

Funny thing about this is, AZ said he can't pick between Nas or Jay, on Drink Champs.
He said Jay and Nas are both too good to compare. People got mad that he didn't pick Nas, but he said he can't compare those two. Large Pro said the same. And that's just being real because there's mad people I know who can't choose between them.

Personally it will always be Nas for me. No beef or silly shyt I just can listen to his artistry all day long. Certain songs just paint such a vivid pic in my mind I can never get them out. Like watching an old movie I love. Both are amazing though just preference.

Do more people generally say Jay? Yea, I don't see how anyone can deny that. A lot of that is based off people's perceptions of 2001-2014 or so. That's middle (or high school) through college for a lot of people in their mid to late 30s right now. So that includes Ether...but it also includes The Black Album/retirement, Collision Course, American Gangster, Blueprint 3, Watch The Throne, and MCHG. Add up who had the biggest hits and biggest albums of the era and you'll get your answer for a lot of people.
And before anyone gets mad yes, I apply the same view to Drake v Kendrick. More people are connected to Drake's music in our generation because he had more hits, loosies, party tracks, bangers, etc. That makes the battle even more impressive IMO. Kendrick handily won despite that disadvantage.
