Some of this is the biproduct of Nas punting on making popular music since 04. People forgot and it’s been long enough to where it’s justified :yeshrug:

AZ and Large Professor were just being honest, 🤷🏽‍♂️, ain’t no shade to Esco, imo.

Bleek and Guru and them nigs are nut huggers and probably scared of Jayz, lol. He’s a billionaire, people will go out of their way to kiss his butt, but that’s another discussion.

Why are people still fighting over this. Some people say Nas, some people say Jay. It's fine.

Do more people generally say Jay? Yea, I don't see how anyone can deny that. A lot of that is based off people's perceptions of 2001-2014 or so. That's middle (or high school) through college for a lot of people in their mid to late 30s right now. So that includes Ether...but it also includes The Black Album/retirement, Collision Course, American Gangster, Blueprint 3, Watch The Throne, and MCHG. Add up who had the biggest hits and biggest albums of the era and you'll get your answer for a lot of people.

And before anyone gets mad yes, I apply the same view to Drake v Kendrick. More people are connected to Drake's music in our generation because he had more hits, loosies, party tracks, bangers, etc. That makes the battle even more impressive IMO. Kendrick handily won despite that disadvantage.
It can't be stressed enough how much 04-12 hurt Nas' perception and standing.

Jay literally made Bleek and Guru’s careers. Like seriously without Jay there IS NO them, so i’ll give them grace when they pick Jay because thats what their supposed to do.

AZ is thankful to Nas for the Illmatic hand up but again their NOT best friends the way people think and AZ is from Brooklyn and if i’m not mistaken briefly went to high school with Jay. It makes much more sense he’d pick both of them.

Large Pro has known Nas since he was 14 years old. Believed in him to the point he had Nas in the studio around Rakim and Eric B. Produced his demo. Put him on Live At The Barbecue. Carmen, the mother of Destiny, is Large Pro’s first cousin. You’d think Large Pro would have NO hesitation picking Nas over Jay but Nas and Large Pro seem to have a weird relationship over the last couple years. Large Pro was mad he wasn’t included in the inner circle the night of the Nasir listening party in QB and drunk tweeted he should’ve put someone else on barbecue. He also admitted he was a little jealous of Nas during the 90’s because he was trapped in label hell while Nas was ascending.
