You’re making the same point everyone else is making: “the NBA has the best talent in the world so it’s like being world champs”

The title “world champion” does not specify talent level, it specifies the type of competition in the particular league.

Case in point, the USA lost the Olympics in 2004 and the pistons won the title that same year. Were the Detroit pistons world champs that year? No.
Does that mean the Argentina is better than the pistons? No.
But that's where we're getting into the semantic bullshyt I was talking about before that leads people to actually think the FIBA World Cup is more of a world championship than the Olympics. The entire world isn't represented, no, but the fact that the NBA has the best talent from all over the world means that its championship inherently holds way more value than any FIBA trophy or Olympic medal and is more representative of the world in terms of talent; and that's what actually matters at the end of the day, not country representation.

I mean let's be real - the only reason the NBA cares to send its best players in the Olympics is because it's good marketing on both the national and international front and because everyone could agree it was unfair that America could only send college players while every other country sent their best professional players when talent was getting better and better.

I mean Lyles ain’t wrong.. NBA champs ain’t world champs.

When they beat the teams in the Olympics they become World Champs

How so? The Celtics didnt play in the Olympics. The leagues best players did. But like I saw Gilbert Arenas say earlier, truthfully nobody really calls NBA champions "world champs" anyway. The NBA might call it that, but players and fans dont. The world doesnt even cross our mind becauase we dont respect the talent level:mjlol:

But then there was Jokic and some goat herders taking Lebron and his "Avengers" to the brink:wow:

Would any of you bet your life right now that the Celtics would beat Serbia:sas1:?

I agree with Noah and agree with you, but I don’t think winning the Olympics makes you a world champ, makes you an Olympic champ. I think to be called a world champion you have to win the FIBA Basketball World Cup which Germany is the champion of currently.

Now if the NBA champion played against some of the top teams from South America and Europe and won a tournament then I think that is fair to call them the world champions. For the record an NBA team would in fact smoke a European or South American team, but until you play other parts of the world it is hard to say you are the best in the world.
So the Boston Celtics can't be called the best because they haven't beaten the Quinong Mongoose. Get real. :dead:

Yes :dahell:

The biggest advantage teams have over Team USA despite having less talent is they have way more chemistry and continuity, Team USA is a group of uber talented players that are trying to learn how to play with each other on the fly whereas those guys have put in years together

That advantage disappears against a team like the Celtics

But the entire world plays in the nba, its not like baseball where international talent can actually compete with the US. Most players outside of the US couldn't make it in the nba if they wanted to.
In order to be a world champion you have to compete against other COUNTRIES around the world.

Yes the NBA has the best players and teams in the world. But it's a domestic league. The word national is literally in the name of the NBA.

FIBA Basketball World Cup over Olympics is some arbitrary nonsense based entirely off of semantics. For one thing, the FIBA World Cup is literally a qualifying tournament for the Olympics - that inherently makes it less of a world championship :heh:. And on top of that, the NBA sends a bunch of roleplayers to the FIBA championships these days. The FIBA World Cup is like the Intercontinental Title :mjlol:

A real world cup would be the best teams in every league. But let's be serious. The NBA is by far the best basketball league in the world, with the best players from all over the world. Every country's best player that's worth a damn plays in the NBA.

Nobody on any other international team could even crack an NBA roster, and how do I know this? Because theyd be on the NBA if they could :heh:

The NBA champion is the best team in the world. Let's cut out all of the semantic bullshyt.
The Olympics is a qualifying tournament for the World Championships as well. :dahell:

Edit: that changed after 2015.

The reason why FIBA World Cup is the actual world championship is down to having more teams and being a real tournament.

But when all of the world's best players play in the NBA, the concept of competing against other countries is meaningless. The absolute best shot any other country would have is if they pulled the 12 best players in Fiba on one team and they'd STILL get washed :mjlol: shyt half of them would probably be ex-players that are out of the league :mjlol:

I mean in the pre-season, teams put their benchwarmers and G-Leaguers against full strength international teams and clobber them every time
