Reference track MEANS someone else laid down the lyrics exactly how it should be and the rapper copied it exactly. Like when you hear that old Detox song with TI or Crooked I when they’re clearly doing Dre’s verse. Or Biggies version of that Lil Kim song. Using the same flow isn’t a reference track. That’s like saying a plane is the same as a car just because they both have tyres.

Reference tracks are used for all the parts of a song. Not exclusively verses or even words.
