Can somebody explain how do you sue the record label for defamation but not Kendrick???

It's like they tip toeing the line

One minute it's not about Kendrick but then the lyrics in NLU hurt Drake reputation.

UMG didn't write the song

Drake’s argument is that UMG had the power to stop the song from being released or make Kendrick censor the lyrics. He’s basically saying UMG aided and abetted the song becoming as popular as it is.

Its bullshyt however when these drill rappers are out here dissing each other’s dead opps and family’s, which has led to REAL death and destruction throughout the hip hop community, and the record label censors none of it.

Or even Drake himself who called Kendrick a wife beater (with ZERO PROOF) threatened violence against him, told him his only begotten son wasn’t his, disrespected his fiancé, and said he was molested as a child. UMG didn’t censor ANY of that.

I've never seen people make excuses for a rapper like this and it started super early: people excusing him for using his phone during the Funk Flex freestyle. We then got years of rappers doing the same shyt during freestyles, including some underground dudes yall love. Then he got excused for ghost writers and stealing songs. Then he got excused for losing a rap battle to Pusha because "it didn't hurt his career." Then his fans spent most of 2024 using the same argument only for Drake to torpedo that by filing a lawsuit confirming his career was hurt...only for the stans to move the goal posts again and turn him into Rosa Parks or some hero fighting for the fights of the common man.
:dead:

Here's the reality: Drake signed a bad deal and dropped some albums that sold real well but did not match the sales of Scorpion, Views, etc. He hasn't had a cultural smash hit in awhile. And now that the label can point all these things out while refusing to give him the big re-negotiation he needs (to maintain his lifestyle and cover his gambling/drugs/women expenses) he's lashing out. He fell into a trap most major artists fall into. Lord knows I'm a Prince fan but the same hubris that made him demand the biggest music contract of all time because he was mad about Madonna and Janet Jackson? It's the same shyt that happened here. Drake wanted the biggest contract to flex on his rivals. But just like Prince, he couldn't grapple with the reality that he isn't as popular as he once was and thus can't hit the metrics in that contract.

I'm no business expert, but this doesn't make sense to me. Let's say they did sabotage Drake to sign him to a cheaper contract - haven't they then hampered their ability to make money from him (their biggest artist) moving forward by publicly destroying his image and reputation? Why would they shoot themselves in the foot like that? Seems extremely short-sighted.

They didn’t hamper anything of their goal was to not pay him the 600m but rather the 150 mill.. they won by devaluing his worth.. give him the 150 mill and they know they will make more off him on whatever project he releases

UMG not shooting themselves in the foot bro..

Add to this whenever people say he's still the most streamed rap artist, ask them if his new shyt is hitting or is it his older stuff that keeps him streaming numbers afloat.

When everything is put to rest
And everybody takes a breath
And everything gets addressed
It's you alone with your regrets
All that pumpin' up your chest
All that talk about the best
You know how sticky it gets

Right, but in doing so they would have destroyed, or done irreparable damage to, his career - meaning they would make vastly less money off him under the new contract… you see that, right? What company in their right mind would purposely devalue the worth of their most successful product? It makes no sense.

im pretty sure thats exactly why he feels he can move in such a way now. exceptions have been made that gave him grace that no other artist would get and possibly actually want, and now he probably feels this is another thing that people will give him a pass for, not seeing for some reason that most of the world isnt fukking with this nonsense. i knew dude was funny style when he wouldnt work with phonte again after think good thoughts
