If you’re not going to mention the fact Drake is trying to renegotiate his deal and UMG is stalling because they boosted the song outside of their contractual obligations and using that song to undermine him, then you’re missing the entire context.

That’s speculation because the filing doesn’t reference that definitively as a motive. Next, Drake instigated this beef himself. UMG did not make him do it nor was Like That released by UMG. That was an Atlantic Records record. An argument can be made that him and his son were in cahoots, however, Kendrick responded to a record by J Cole and Drake. According to reports, the renegotiation was ongoing before the beef so Drake did this to himself.
