TDE Championship Tour headline by Kendrick and sza was in 2018 a good full year after DAMN. Drake could drop now and tour next year no problem

DAMN had a tour Summer 2017.

The Weeknd in order to perform on the west coast/NY had to throw 2021 in the bushes. These tours are bigger than just Texas Florida and Atlanta

Everybody has a shelf life he had pretty extended run like we've actually never really seen in hip hop. But I dont feel like he will transition well into too many other things. But I could be wrong.
I could see him moving into politics in Canada

Their shyt bombed hard. Meanwhile Lil Baby, Von and others selling well despite most clubs being closed. Music is gonna do what it does regardless. The major difference is tour money. If you're Drake, Cole, Kendrick, Travis, Cardi, etc releasing an album without the ability to tour is leaving $30 to $100 million dollars on the table, depending on the artist.

I'd imagine part of the reason Drake is delaying is because they're trying to line the tour up. Will venues be open in...July? August? September? I don't know.

there are songs like “Bad and Boojee” and the “Dreams and nightmares” that popped off because of how well it played in the club but for the most part a hit is a hit. Most people aren’t consuming songs in the clubs during normal times

I'd argue both those tracks were gonna blow up regardless. Especially Bad And Boujee...white people gravitated to that with the quickness. Dreams And Nightmares...sure, I'd say the club helped it a lot. But Meek was still hot at the time and people were checking on the album. I think that would have rang off even in a situation where clubs were closed.

Yeah I agree I’m just digging deep for songs that could strengthen her point

city girls problem is that their fanbase is too niche.

Do you think another issue is that City Girls haven't really hit that white girl acceptance level? Sure, ratchet white chicks fukk with it. But you gotta reach a certain level of suburban/high school/college/nurse/etc white girl acceptance in order to really put up numbers. It took Megan some time to get there. Cardi was popping with black people and Hispanics but white girls jumped on with Bodak Yellow. Just glancing through youtube it's interesting that most of their singles are around 15-20mil views. Highest are around 60mil. Youtube numbers are typically inflated but still, interesting to compare to Megan who has multiple tracks above 60mil, a few 100mil, etc.

Yeah that’s it. Their biggest hit was due to tiktok And how quotable the opening lines are to the song

So y’all calling it postponed? Back in the day we called it PUSHED BACK

I’ve seen the same rhetoric before. It was back in 2007-2008 when my man Fif was on the downfall.

“he will always go plat”
“He can always tour stadiums”

Fif had half the career seis had tho. HE even said his run is different.

Drake has never done a stadium tour.... and I don’t think he can..

no rapper has ever done so.. (Jay Z doesn’t count since It was with Beyoncé and she’s the biggest act in the world)
Drake last 2 tours he performed 5 nights in a row at MSG

he could’ve done 1 show at Giants stadium

Stadium tours are not a great experience for the fans and Drake tour director said they rather do multiple dates at a venue than a stadium

City Girls bombed. Obviously Drake is gonna do 500k+ first week regardless, it doesn't matter. My argument is that albums are just the first step in selling a product: the tour. Yes Drake can do a stadium tour whenever but as an artist, your album is a phase of your life, and a creation of a moment in time. Not being able to present that to the world as planned, in a timely manner, sucks. Think about Weeknd. He had an elaborate image and theme for his album, had a tour planned...and doesn't get to do it. Sure he'll do the Super Bowl. But after that, is he going to want to don that outfit again in October 2021 when we might see tours again? I doubt it. That moment will be gone. He'll probably have an EP or something released to mark the end of that era.
You typed all of this and never stepped on a stage or in a recording studio in your life. Wow. :skip:

I’ve been in a studio (once!) and worked at a label that houses multiple legends. I feel good about my standing on all rap related issues fam.
