Also this is like Drake’s 12th project since being mainstream

No artist is making their best collection of music at that point in there career, especially not someone as accomplished and rich as Drake

Now, I’ve only listened to the album once but the problem seems to be it’s not better than Scorpion or any of the music he’s released since then

So when your new stuff doesn’t sound better than what everyone has been listening too already there’s going to be a let down

Now, compare that to Cole where most people weren’t feeling 4YEO and KOD, The off-season sounds like a return to form of some sort when really it’s just better than your last

Same with 4:44 and MCHG

Those projects are not touching peak Cole or Jay but it’s all about expectations and Drakes are high and he didn’t deliver

People should just stop reading after this. I’ve only listened to a fraction of the album and it’s better than that mid sandwich Scorpion, bloated ass Views and More Life. So far, some of these songs that Drake is doing all this average singing on, he should be rapping.

I personally think that this is better than Scorpion, but that really isn't saying much.

SH2, even though it was a three pack, had better songs than most of this album. This isn't me asking for his best or a classic, it's asking for a great project that lacks filler or songs that kind of bore me. I gave the album a C+ which isn't particularly bad, at all, and it'll accomplish everything that it intended to. But that's as far as it'll go in my opinion.

100%. The Off-Season was made by one of Drake's contemporaries, someone a year older than him, and it could very well be the best album they ever made. King's Disease II was made by a man turning 48 in two weeks, and it's one of the best albums of the year. Kendrick will be 34 when his next project comes out, and considering his track record, it could be another great album.

We're finally seeing rappers challenge aging and the idea that you can only make your best music when you're young and hungry. We've gotten a lot of great projects in the last couple years from older rappers. Hell, even Eminem proved a few years ago that he could make a solid album that's shorter, more focused, and consistent. What's Drake’s excuse?

This is a great post and I think this is a sign that hip hop is maturing as a genre.

I don't listen to a lot of other genres in depth but I brought this up to my brother who is a big music head across all types and he pointed out that people like Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, David Bowie (up until his death) are still making some of the most inspired music of their careers in to their 70's and beyond.

Slightly off topic since I haven't listened to the Drake yet but this absolutely applies to the others you mentioned. Hip hop doesn't have to be strictly a young man's game anymore. I think we're seeing a shift where we're actually starting to respect our legends.

To be reality that Jay verse was FIRE. Old ass nikka floated. Best verse in years from him imo
I liked hovs verse but his shyt on drug dealer anonymous (which was a few years ago so maybe I shouldn’t count it) but his verses on Jay Elecs album were fire too

Scorpion is bloated but the highs on that album are undeniable

it’s going to be hard for most people to think this is better than Scorpion, there’s to many huge songs on there

It’s not many albums out there that have that many songs that will ring off anywhere

Man this shyt is boring as hell

Some joints but I just can't fukk with these long ass anaemic sounding Drake albums any more. Just zero growth musically or lyrically. Same old shyt album after album.

And the songs just ain't catchy any more.
