A post One-Piece, Naruto, and Bleach era Dragonball.... I'm listening...
I'll be 100% honest though. I need someone with some credibility to co sign this project. A writer or writers with some top tier story telling ability.
Someone that can write DB to its full potential. Toriyama is not the guy I want heading that department. He has to prove to me that he has learned from past mistakes.
Now I'm cool with him creating the story, the world and the plot points. But when it comes to how we get to A, B, and C I want someone that can bring these characters back to life and give some depth to them so they don't feel like caricatures of themselves.
I want DB to go back to its more serious tone and I believe for it to be successful it has to. We need to feel the weight of "Death" and the sense of "Hopelessness" that DB has been missing. Especially if it wants to compete with the One-Pieces and the Narutos of the current generation. My favorite and I believe was the best DBZ movie was "The History of Trunks" and was the reason why Future Trunks was the best character in the series. Dude was the only person in the series that knew the true meaning of loss and spent his how life not training/fighting to get stronger and to reach a higher level but to flat out survive the next day.
I've said in another post before, if Toriyama wants to have Goku and Vegeta keep protecting earth he has to write earth as a place worth protecting. Because he keeps portraying earth and the people on it as dumb, ignorant, and weak. And if it is threatened or does blow up none of the audience will care because he hasn't given us a reason to.
If Toriyama can make Dragonball Super the Naruto:Shippuden of DBZ then I'm in. Because no matter how much I'd like to be, I'm not going to be satisfied with just more of the same. I want to see a rise in maturity level.
But a new series is definitely a step in the direction I was hoping for.
