Here's my take:

Goten was only created to fill the Goku void after he died in the Cell saga. He acts and looks exactly like Goku. When fans got upset that Gohan had the juice, Toriyama brought Goku back but forgot he already created Goten to replace him. So now there are basically two Gokus. Toriyama didn't feel like writing Goten out so he left him there with kid Trunks as someone to play with since Trunks himself was just plot device for the Androids.

Oh I didn't know what you meant by who's the three. I thought you just meant who's at the spot. Krillin and Roshi are definitely better than Yamcha and Tien. They don't do Tien too much justice since apparently not only does he take his training seriously, it seems like he's out here training everyday.

Tien needs an understudy. Master roshi has 2, piccolo has one, Tien needs one.

And it should be Goten.

That way Goten is linked to the Crane Hermit style of martial arts which is the cousin of the turtle hermit style that Goku and Krillin learned. It would Link Goten to Goku, but also make him different.

Gohan has a Purple Gi
Goku has the Orange Gi
Goten Should have a Green Gi.

And Super Saiyan Goten using Tien Techniques would be deadly.

Good take. I had a theory that most of the fans never really took to Goten and kid Trunks, so Toriyama doesn’t focus on them. Gohan had a fair amount of stans and Toryiama didn’t think he could hold it down. I’m in my mid 30s and have never met anyone who claims Goten or Trunks as a favorite character.

The age part is what gets me. Super in DB time has occurred over 2 years.

Trunks is 14 now and looks the same as he did in the Buu saga.

Then again, Goku looked like a midget until he was like 18...
