In the anime, iirc, there was a flashback of Roshi trying to teach the Krillin and Goku (in DB) how to move without spilling or shaking a pot of water. Goku nor Krillin learned how to do that. UI is just an extension of that. At least the defensive version of UI.

This UI Roshi is not as far off as you all want it to be. Plus, the manga (japanese) says what Roshi is doing "resembles" UI. Doesn't mean (yet) that it's actual UI.

Still, UI isn't that big of a power boost that could make Roshi (a character that still ain't even stronger than Namek saga Freeza) throw hands with Jiren. It don't make sense no matter how you look at it.

The funny part is that UI isn't a power boost at all. It's just a state of being. Seeing as Jiren isn't allowed to kill anyone in this tournament, he's not going to go full power against Roshi. So the best Roshi can do defensively is dodge and parry (on some judo, use their power against them shyt). I haven't seen any images where Roshi is legit trading power blows with Jiren.

Yeah true. The writing wasn’t the best, but atleast DB and DBZ (mostly) were more consistent and original to what was out at the time. Which is one of the reasons for its popularity today.

yea but the writing has always been kinda inconsistent and contrived, AT wrote the manga nonstop every week for several years so he probably couldn’t be bothered with air tight continuity and complete logical sense.

there’s tons of questionable story elements in DB/Z that made zero sense... we just didn’t care.
