Prime Kobe had 7 seasons as the man and got 2 rings
Prime Shaq had 12-13 seasons as the man (depending on how you view Dwade) and got 3 rings
Prime Tim Duncan had 17 seasons as the man and got you 4-5 rings (depending on how you view the last Spurs ring)

Give Kobe 12-17 seasons as the man and its likely he at least gets you another ring
Gotta love dishonest arguments tho

Truthfully, you have to pick Kobe or Duncan, they stayed with their teams for 19 and 20 years, Shaq was a mercenary and would leave your franchise after 6 years.
Starting a franchise around the 18 year old Kobe that came into the league wouldn't even be an option. Kobe didn't become "the man" until he was already in his prime and even then it took getting the right coach, system, and teammates for the Kobe-led lakers to be really competitive. Imagine a prime Shaq and Duncan not being able to lead a team to the playoffs even with the type supporting cast that Kobe first had after Shaq? Even the 2 lakers teams that Kobe got rings with without Shaq weren't necessarily built around him. The teams were more built around the triangle and Phil jax's philosophy of coaching. Plus that was Kobe with all the confidence and championship experience that he gained playing with Shaq. If Kobe never got traded to the lakers and had to start his career in Charlotte, I think that there's a chance that he doesn't have any rings let alone 5.

Both Shaq and Duncan were franchise players from day one. They were drafted as franchise players and were thrusted in that role from the door. Kobe doesn't even belong in this conversation. Anybody who says that they would start their franchise with Kobe over Shaq or Duncan just doesn't know basketball.

If Kobe had his own team starting in 97/98, he'd have 3-5 titles :yeshrug:
