Album was dope and innovative. Displayed his maturity as well as senority. The beats were flawless, the writing was A 1.....the witiness was off the charts.

The only flaw.....was Dre rapping...Had this been a Kendrick or Game album I think it would be considered as one of better albums of the 2010's

holy shyt not one replayable song on there. i don't have the urge to listen to it anymore ever again. glad detox never came out and it will remain a hope

I know you going to get major hate on this but I agree. I had gotten the album and initially was sold on the hype, I'm like "Damn Dre bout to kill the game" I played that shyt and by track 5 I was trashing it. the album (to me) didn't mesh sonically at all, it was rap it was jazzy and of course the expected west coast key's feel. but it isn't an album I liked nor understood the hype behind it besides it coming from Dre.

This is TheColi.

Everything is overrated, everyone is a plant.

The production and mixing are second to none though

Not trying to argue but the album was most certainly over hyped. and it shadowed a couple projects which were way better than this album but because it was from Dre and Dre hasn't released an album in a while, all the internet rap write up sites were riding his dikk a little to hard and close for comfort.

Everyone isn't a plant, but anytime a rapper who doesn't even have a handle on how to construct a proper 16 or atleast a track run with 32 or more bars can outshine some of the best technical writers around, it does bring up the question of industry-plants.

but as you've said, Dre's production and mixing is and has always been on point. no denying that.

Album is dope. All this "but it didn't shut the game down for x amount of time" is really more so indicative of the era we live in where music in general doesn't have that much time to breathe. We get bombarded with so much shyt, saying something "came and went" even for albums that I don't like doesn't really make much sense.

I agree with your overall tone and message but I disagree with the aspect about "giving it time to breathe". if I like an album, and let's say it was released in January, if it's a good ass album I'll be playing it well into the middle of the year before losing interest in it for place of something else. I just don't think Dre's compton album was as good as it was hyped up to be.

I'm not sayin you can't make a fair assessment without sitting on an album for a month, just that people talking that "came and went" shyt are usually jumping the gun. Even with that wack ass views album, you had people talking about it came and went less than a week of it dropping. How about you just decided to listen to something else?

I thought Compton was DOPE but I wasn't bumping it months on end. Had plenty of good songs on it, I was just listening to other shyt at the time. The hype was there but as somebody that has been at this for a while I knew better than to buy into that so It wasn't some huge let down, I expected a good album, not a game changer, I broke even.

it's all hype, I agree that the drake album isn't as dope as people are claiming it to be and I'm a drake fan. but I think hype is a bigger factor than talent now-a-days. and I'm not a major fan of Dre but I will admit to when someone releases good music. Dre's compton album did come and go quick, it was hyped, it got released then it went dark. and like you, I don't like or dislike an album based on reviews because I tend to find the reviews to be incorrect. but I did expect a good album (like you, not a game changer) but I was let down (in my personal opinion).

You don't respect it now but in a few years when it's brought up again and you: :ehh: "haven't heard this in a while" and re-listen to it, you might just like have a different view on it.

My own two cents: "Animals" is probably a top ten Dre song, ever.

Yeah I said it.:birdman:
