And I also want to add that just because we may not have all the answers, it doesn't give credibility to any alternative hypothesis. We can't "learn from each other" because one side doesn't have any demonstrable evidence for their claims -- only appeals to logical fallacies, and rehashed arguments. One side is trying to solve a mystery WITH a mystery. That's not how KNOWLEDGE works. We use what we already know to explain what we don't know. Otherwise, the supposed explanation doesn't have any explanatory power at all.

I don't have a problem with belief in God, but you're grossly misinformed if you don't think those beliefs affect each and every one of us.

You have some people who would advocate and/or legislate against stem cell research, LGBT rights, safe sex and contraceptives, a woman's right to choose, and be in favor of a whole slew of other bad ideas ALL derived from a belief in a God. Now, I'm not saying that every believer is this way, but your beliefs inform your actions, and when you hold beliefs for BAD reasons, you're susceptible to believe other things for bad reasons.

I mean, technically he's right. There are states in which their constitution states that a person who denies the existence of a God cannot hold office, my state included. However, the Supreme Court case Torcaso v. Watkins ruled such religious tests to be unconstitutional.
