Usually in civilized and humane societies, citizenship is based on what country you were born in, not your parents.

That's arbitrary as hell, though. For ex. a child born to US parents overseas can pretty easily be a US Citizen. Just because you're born somewhere doesn't make you that. Why you think ppl born here are still Haitian-American or Mexican-American. They're Haitians and Mexicans regardless of where they were born

I mean some nations are nice enough to extend citizenship if you're parents are citizens of that nation but you weren't born there, but I've never heard of a country NOT giving citizenship to a person that WAS born in their country. Humans are collateral for a government. Thats some straight up self-hate BS coming from these dominac00nz.

So basically, from what I understand, children born to illegal immigrants aren't considered citizens of the country...

That's not very controversial...
The decision applies to those born after 1929

So there's nothing controversial about removing people from their nation of origin after they've been living and contributing there for over 100 years?

These people already had citizenship though. To revoke their citizenship from a country where they lived all their life in is messed up.

There are several countries that do just that. The UK is one. One of your parents have to be British in order to get citizenship at birth.

y'all stay mad over this but I don't blame the Dominicans. Haiti is a shythole for a reason :heh: They just don't want to see their country ruined. Why don't the Haitians fix the problems in their country instead running off into another country?

Haiti and DR are right next to each other and one is a near first world country and the other is a perpetual dump. I wonder what the reason could be for Haitii being a dump while DR prospers? :mjpls: :mjpls: :mjpls:

Ah, I see...

I don't see a problem going forward. And to be real with you, I don't see them going through the trouble of going back and retroactively deporting people. When that starts actually happening I'll take offense. For now: :yeshrug:

I wonder what the reason could be for you being such an idiot? After Haiti put the beats on France they were essentially taxed into poverty, no white nation was going to help a Black nation build. But what do you know, you think DR is a near first world country :pachaha:

Because the Dominican Republic decided to rely on tourism as its economic base (like most other islands in the Caribbean). Haiti, on the other hand chose (or the government chose it for them) to rely on their own industry rather than tourism. Unfortunately, there is insufficient arable land or raw materials to create a sustainable economy. And now, because of decades of poverty and corrupt government, Haiti is a wasteland. When flying to the Dominican Republic you can SEE where one country begins and the other ends. The DR side is green and lush, while the H side is brown and dry. The DR put their resources into establishing a tourist trade, and are beginning to succeed. Should Haiti decide to do the same thing, it will take decades to restore the ravaged environment.

nah the problem is that this goes back many decades so it affects not only the children of the immigrants but the grand and great grand children

so people who have live their whole life as Dominicans and whose parents were born and were their whole life Dominicans just had their citizenship stripped away

and since they were born in DR they are not Haitian so they are effectively nationless

DR, near first world?
