the "Black" that African Americans are saying is more cultural
thats why most Dominicans say Im not black
well yeah no duhh, thats what im saying.

and it aint just dominicans alot of others say the same or rather did in the past. I had a thread about a Jamaican women's family who had a similar past

Its just became popular now, for people to shyt on dominicans doing this when prior, the same groups who are talking shyt now back in the 80s, 90s, and even the 00s were doing the same thing as the dominicans and saying "Me no Black gyal"

Now other groups(including americanized dominicans) are trying to hop on the "im black" train.

the difference in language food music and customs is not even close
I think they understand their skin is dark
from my understanding dominicans know their ancestry, but black is associated with us. so thats cool with me

if u go to Europe most Americans are not even consider black cuz they not dark enough if u a brown shade they will ask what you are mixed with cuz they are used to the skin tones of people from Africa
which is why i say all the time nonados(africans, caribbeans, afro latins, etc) are not black and shouldnt be. stuff like this shows how blackness is tied to societal customs, rules and cultures depending where you at.

They got something like that over there, yet you got dumb nikkas here on the coli saying and defending their "blackness" here with "well ____ is black cause...". it dont matter if you dark as a Sudanese(or are one. lol) you should not be classified as black here.

you are __________ - american and thats it.

in present day in the United States, yes Black is associated with AA’s. The historical reasons are because black is associated with being enslaved. By the time Haitians had arrived on the island the population was significantly mixed and the present day Dominican identity had been formed(1622). This also predates the arrival the majority of black slaves in the United States. The use of moreno originated from freed people. You’ll hardly ever hear negro without a positive adjective following it like “guapo” meaning handsome or “hermosa” meaning beautiful. Negro hermosa, negro guapo. It’s to not offend. Or you’ll hear “negrita” or “negrito” when talking about children. Again all positives.

I think if you walked the island in non tourist areas where historically the arrivals of black Caribbean’s in the late 1800’s and Haitian workers you’ll see why I don’t believe majority are black phenotypically or genetically. I stick out and I’m not dark at all. Just the undertones of skin and hair are vastly different.

yeah its obvious and known not every dominican is african descent. But from what Im told by people who been there, dwelled in the country etc. theie is still A heavy prescene so you have clearly african mixed with spanish or taino, triracial, and afro latino people there tho.

I also think this thinking is a dangerous slippery slope, because this thinking that they are not african descent based on hair and skin is why we are dealing with NonADOS who are doing the same to our culture and lighter skinned blacks.
where you have them saying that "they aint black" because some ADOS who have lighter skinn and hair texture aren't dark or even brown with kinky hair.

im not saying this to defend them or be like some pannie trying to covet them for sneaky reasons(like sexual politics) but thinking like this can be turned to bite us in the ass and apply to us.

i agree with them not being "black" tho, but like i said i think that title is and should be exclusive to us. especially as we wear it with a cultural and lineage tie. Not based on superficial barrier of skin color.

I don’t think it’s dangerous because for Dominicans it’s just Dominican. It’s not that the idea of race doesn’t exist. It’s just Dominican was used for all inhabitants of the Spanish colony. So the equation of our identity of black Americans and excluding lighter members as not being Dominican isn’t present in Dominican society. The non ADOS who are doing this, guess what? They aren’t AfroLatino. Think about that for a minute. Our racial politics just don’t fit in Latin America.

Different histories and colonial attitudes.

I live in an enclave in Santiago and I’m KD’s color and even when I’m not the darkest in certain areas the undertones are significantly different. It’s the representation of that admixture, different colonial masters, period of mixing, etc. This isn’t also done with me. We have a white Brazilian friend and she’s routinely asked where she’s from because they know she’s not Dominican.

We don’t have to worry about stuff biting us in the ass. Too late for that. ADOS and FBA alone is an admission of the failures of one side pan africanism. We tribe to extrapolate our racial history and politics to other nations and groups of people and ignored what they had been trying to tell us.

For years “I’m Jamaican, Nigerian, etc” was met with hostility, when all they were saying is my nationality comes with a history that may not make sense to you unless you grew up in this society, racial politics and attitudes included. Us being the loudest and most visible globally equated that with being correct now here we are. Attempting to reverse 100 years of this and differentiate ourselves. :francis:

I see what you saying, and agree with the bolded. this is why the forced pushing of racial politics from here put into latin america is corny.

plus racial poltics all across are different from each other, as you had @Diyhai mention how if your a brown skin black man from america(which is the average skin tone for ADOS) you wont be considered or seen as black as you are not dark as the african citizens

This is why im more leaning to the side that you cant apply race shyt to everyone and why race and who is who should be tied to history, colonial customs, societal customs, cultural ties. etc

its not and shouldnt just be "you got ____ in you so you ..." like nikkas like to do. we see now how with nonADOS people they like to tow and play with this by trying to play the black card with us for benefits but make and have had in the past to seperate us when its benefical.

and yep one way pan africanism is hugely the fault.

hence why i believe black is and should be exclusive to ADOS and anyone who is of ADOS descent, atleast to us in America a country we built and created what Blackness is here. Hell America and everyone lets everyone know when its due time that "Black" to them is Black american

This video is a perfect example. This is the danger of raising your kids in a 2nd culture in a 2nd language.

Her dad just couldn’t articulate this and the daughter wasn’t trying to hear it.
I feel you breh but how do you explain the doll thing in the first video?

At some point you gotta accept that there are some Dominicans that be on some colorist bullshyt.

Oh really? Is that why abuela was trying to force her granddaughter to play with the white doll instead of the black one? :mjlol:

If this same thread was about Nigerians or some shyt, NOBODY in here would be defending it and rightfully so.

Do you have a soft spot for Hispanics because you're lightskin (I'm assuming)?

Because you go WAAAAY harder on other non-ados black people..

Yet, I'm ADOS and I've gotten far worse treatment from Hispanics than any non-ados combined. (Relatively speaking. Most Hispanics I know are cool)

First of all, I never complained about being darkskin. I complained about being UGLYgang.

Unless you're implying that those two are interchangeable.

I usually see you in threads defending lightskin people and going in on darkskin. So naturally I assumed you're lightskin. (Peep how you jumped straight to assuming I bytch about being darkskin.) I bytch about not getting bytches. Get it right. See how I'm honest. You should try it fakkit.

Secondly, you don't have to be a fake militant to not be biased. You don't have to post "dominic00n" but you NEVER go hard on them, especially not as much as you in on non-ados. These are facts.

Third, I've handled these issues many times with Hispanics in my city... I've handled it with non-ados too. I don't pick and choose.

See, I don't even hate Dominicans. It's just that I hate the picking and choosing that nikkas like you do. They're really just catching strays. Just say you wanna fukk latinas or you hate darkskin people, p*ssy. :pachaha:

I'm a ugly nikka who gets no bytches. Now tell us what you are. Hint: I already wrote it out for you.
