I don't think this is the rappity rap album she said she was doing, but she definitely leaned more into that lane and the production is less sugary pop which was getting stale.

"Can't Wait" sounds nothing like Lauryn Hill, like at all, lol.

"Can't Wait" sounds like a Missy vibe through and through, even the way Doja stacked her vocals on the song. it's the way Doja sings on it that sounds like Missy, it's her approach.

The Missy/Erykah comparisons are on point. She creates these unique, dreamy songs where her personality and songwriting shine through. This is playing to the strengths that originally gave her a fanbase rather than the safe pop/r&b she was doing the last few albums.

Its a good pop rap album, as far as mainstream female rappers its the best album in a long time. The bar was low, but still.
