Does the Talmud ACTUALLY say that?

New video up @Koichos get in here :youngsabo:

But seriously, this was a good video that cleared up many misconceptions….. maybe a little biased overall but as a Jew he tried to objective as I imagine possible.

Might need to subscribe to the channel. :manny:

My takeaway:

Is the Talmud basically the Hadiths but in Jewish form?

Is the Talmud the real creator of modern Judaism just like some critics of Christianity claim it’s a work of PAUL?

And last but not least, why the Jesus HATE if he died and is another failed messiah from the Jewish point of view?

I see Jesus was living rent free in the minds of Jewish leaders/scholars even 500 years later for them to actually say he will be punished by “BOILING EXCREMENT”! :whoo:

That statement alone kinda kills the credibility of a “religious document”.

It seems overly vengeful and graphic coming from the writings of the most respected Rabbis at the time, but I digress….. maybe there’s some comedic gems in the Talmud :banderas:

I might actually have to give it a read sooner than later.

@MMS have you read the Talmud? :troll:

not the whole thing no, but i have read parts of it

why do you think they say he will be punished that way? :jbhmm:

from my pov it is not like the hadiths at all

Jesus said not one jot or tittle (qotz of a yodh, or a fine part of it) will be destroyed till all is fulfilled

that creates an interesting issue, what has Jesus done to people who have destroyed works of hebrew texts :ohhh: the barbarians notoriously forced persians/arabs to drink molten gold

and Judah was responsible for persian captivity :patrice:

The Talmudim are comprised of two parts: the mishnah (written in Hebrew) is the ‘Oral Tοrah’, the g'mara (written in Aramaic) is the ‘commentary’. The Aramaic found in the g'mara y'rushalmit is written in the dialect of Y'rushalayim while the Aramaic found in g'mara bavlit is written in the Babylonian dialect. It is the same mishnah in both.

And last but not least, why the Jesus HATE if he died and is another failed messiah from the Jewish point of view?

Huh? This ‘Yeshu’ lived in the 2nd century BCE, a contemporary of the Hasmonaean king Yanna´i (reigned 102-76 BCE, son of Yοhanan ben Hurḳanοs ‘John Hyrcanus’) and student of Y'hοshu`a ben P'rahyah (the second of the five renowned zugοt (‘pairs’) who, alongside Natta´i Ha´arbeli, headed the Great Sanhedrin round about 140-100 BCE).

The Maharsh"a explains its Biblical derivation in his ‘Hiddushei Aggadot’ there.

It is a typical aggadic hyperbole in similar style to the one mentioned there in relation to the wicked Bil`am.

Yes, but their nuances are lost in translation due to the often legal, technical and cultural terms for which there just isn’t a corresponding word in English.

Question:

Are there any modern Jews who are Torah only and reject the Talmud

Let’s say for example, that someone doesn’t necessarily need the teachings of Paul to become a Christian

Is the same true in Judaism?

Is reading and knowing the Talumd required to be a “Jew” or part of the faith process?

Watch the video in the OP, he explains it pretty thoroughly

It has to do with conditions of rape and if a girl can still be considered “pure” afterwards when later grown up and seeking marriage

I’m waiting on the junes to explain it as it’s hard to get them to talk about this. Very odd seeing that it’s used for lifestyle, relationships, business and ofcourse religion. What’s even more odd is the Christians that are aligned. We need ye to break this down

Such an act should never have been done in the first place (‘l'chat'hillah’, a priori); but, once it has been done (‘b'di`avad’, ex post facto), how does it affect her legal status? In Jewish law, certain pedigree (kοhanim, for example) are prohibited from marrying Jewish women who have engaged in relations with gentiles. However, if she were raped (חַס וְחָלִילָה), as a child, she may keep her ‘pure’ status: legally it is as if she had never been touched. Similar provisions are put in place for young boys against grown women.

The two Talmudim are replete with postulates for the sake of analyzing a point and encouraging discussion around that matter; this does not make them statements of truth.
Unfortunately, they have been translated into [a kind of] English and accessed by the unlearned. It is sad that this is so, but in this modern age it is unavoidable. In any event, there is no implication that it is ‘approved’ for a man to have relations with such a young girl (or a woman with a young boy); it isn’t, and that issue is dealt with elsewhere.

I’m sure there are. But evidence of the Oral Law can be found in the Tana"ch itself (dating from the earliest period of the ‘Judges’), so these are the practices of our ancestors.

Let’s say for example, that someone doesn’t necessarily need the teachings of Paul to become a Christian

No, women don’t learn Talmud. And we are a people, not a religion. That is why a convert becomes a Jewish person, not a Jewish believer; he or she will forevermore remain a Jew, no matter their belief down the road — גֵּר שֶׁנִּתְגַּיֵּר כְּקָטָן שֶׁנּוֹלָד דָּמֵי ger shennitgayyer k'ḳattan shennοlad damei (‘a ger who has been converted is like a newborn infant’).
