Many witnesses heard them and smelt explosive materials. The government specifically chose not to investigate explosives so that's why they never actually "found" anything, cause they were told not to look into it. All the evidence was quickly piled up and shipped to china to be recycled so no one would ever know.

US Government had the entire story of what happened ready to announce to the American minions within 24hrs of the attacks. People would rather believe in magical passports and invisible planes than scientific facts.
