Why are people trying to downplay Horizon success?

In North America, Horizon forbidden west sold about 1.1 million copies without bundles in its first month. The only other PS exclusives that have better first month sales in N.A .than horizon are Spiderman and God of War and maybe helldivers?

For comparison, Uncharted 4 did around 850k+ with bundles/ without bundles 600k-650k
Star wars Jedi survivor- 700k-1mil
Recent Resident evil games 600k-1mil.

with all these failed spin offs like the VR game and Lego game, the remaster flopping and Forbidden West not doing as well as they hoped, does Sony overestimate how popular the Horizons franchise really is? they seem to think it's some franchise cash cow or house-hold name, but do gamers really care about the Horzion games like that? :ohhh:
Prequels/spinoffs tend to sell significantly worse than the mainline games especially if they are made for niche product like VR. The only spinoffs that does better than the mainline are those Forza Horizon games.

Off the top of my head:
Killzone (killzone 2 sold horribly and got greenlit for #3 to compete against other fps games and got squashed)

Recently:
Death stranding did not do that well. Theyre making a sequel right now
KZ2 + KZ3 both sold between 2-4 million individually on 2008/2010 budgets. That’s not a flop. Especially for that time. Internet hyperbole isn’t reality.
DS was fukking walking simulator trash but it sold over 5 million by march of 2021. That’s more than MG3 btw. That’s b4 the Directors cut dropped on ps5.. Again not a flop anywhere except to internet nerds.

Horizon is mid, but it's clearly not a flop. I don't think it's super successful either. It was bundled and has been discounted for a while, but Sony clearly makes enough money off the series to not abandon it so I can't just call it a flop. Definitely a mid ass franchise though, Aloy is the most boring modern protagonist in gaming she has the personality of a cardboard box.
