I believe RJ on any given night could beat any of the ATG's around his weight class prime for prime. Roy was that great.

I dont believe he had the chin to deal with Sugar Ray Robinson:manny:

Roy in his prime was a different fighter & his chin was fine. He got caught a couple of times from JT & didn't flinch. The RJ that moved down from HW is a totally different fighter & he was already 35.

He was dropped by Lou Del Valle while RJJ was in his prime....and I wouldnt call Del Valle a "big" puncher. Especially not on SRR's level.

Del Valle is a southpaw that landed a great straight left to the temple that's stunned him. Anyone could've been dropped by that kind of shot that throws your equilibrium off. How many other shots did RJ take before that & even after & never went down? This myth of RJ having a bad chin is his prime gets blown out of proportion because of how bad he lost when not in his prime.

Also RJ still had his wits even though he got caught.

I mean I understand what you're saying......but Lou Del Valle at his very best was 1/50th of the fighter Prime Sugar Ray Robinson was.

I just feel that if Del Valle could put him down, even for a second, puts the confirmation on the fact to me that SRR would beat RJJ by any means. SRR was just as athletically gifted (same height/weight also), just as fast hands/quickness, better defense with a better chin, better puncher (heavier hands/punching placement/accuracy), he was just a much more complete boxer imo than RJJ.

I just cant see RJJ at his best beating SRR at his best. Would SRR destroy Roy? Probably not. Could he beat Roy? Yes...especially if it was a 15 rounder which is what SRR fought. I could see him winning by UD or KOing RJJ in the 14th round.

I hear you too bruh but this is boxing. Anyone can get caught or dropped at any moment; especially a temple shot from a southpaw. And what did RJ do to a better southpaw in Reggie Johnson who knocked down JT & had him hurt? The same Reggie Johnson who arguably beat Tarver. Pitched a shutout. That's why I don't think you could base your judgement in regards to his chin or to justify him getting beat or iced by SRR. But what you have to remember is Roy was the naturally bigger man. He started his career at a higher weight where SRR in his prime was a WW. I don't think SRR was a bigger puncher either. You have a naturally bigger man in RJ who was just as fast if not faster. RJ was awkward; probably as awkward as Churley Burley yet the GOAT didn't fight him

*I skipped this on mistake breh*

I feel you, but it's only so far we can go in debate since they fought about 40 years apart:mjcry:

We will never know what would have happened. I DO know that RJJ is the greatest fighter I've ever witnessed in our era at his peak abilities:wow:

You know there's a bunch of rich old "people" that are probably sitting on some crazy footage that'll never see the light of day

I would love to watch all 136 of his up until he retired after losing to Joey Maxim. I wish that footage existed so we could really see why even to this day, his spot as #1 is pretty much cemented. How great was he? Because his "out of prime" footage we see on youtube is amazing:to:

Prime Roy has a chance against any fukking body. If there was an alien race sent to conquer Earth and we had to choose a champion in there prime to fight against theirs for the sake of humanity...

nikkas couldn't tell me Roy ain't on that short list of candidates.

SRR could very well beat him and would be favored to do so, but it wouldn't be easy.

nikkas looking too deep into the Da Valle knockdown. Let's not forget that dude was mad familiar with Roy's style since he used to a be a sparring partner for him.
