Because it was trash nothing was hitting for me still NAS >>>Kendrick anyway did he have a quotable verse this album?
But it wasn’t trash, you don’t like it off one spin tho, so that’s fine, but to declare it worse than a project without actually listening to it - you heard it, but ain’t listen - isn’t factual.

I don’t look for quoteables, I like my music to tell a story, not be comprised of disconnected punchlines

If u wanna go by critics and album lists. KD3 beat Kendrick's album on damn near every year end list and it's also more critically acclaimed.
I don’t go by critics, the source is literally the only “outside” professional opinion that ever influenced me to buy or skip an album. Critics love a lot of shyt I hate and hate a lot of shyt I love…music ain’t objective.

But that’s amazing for KD3…they were both amazing albums to me

This is some BS intangibles espn talk. Mystique is gone due to the completely different worlds the 90’s-early 00’s was compared to the late 00’s and 10’s. Cameras everywhere, social media, the devaluing of music, and accessibility of celebrities changed a lot of stuff, plus simply being an adult, things don’t aww you or carry the same grandeur as being a kid/teen/college age

I get what you are saying but some things don't change no matter the era. Nas legendary 1st appearance on live at the BBQ. Illmatic legendary line up. The 5 mics rating. Nas feature run in 95 and in 99. The belly movie and the fashion that came with it. the subliminal rivalry with big then pac then the beef with Jay. The hate me now clip, the first time we saw the qb chain...

it's maybe unfair to those who came now but every genra of music got their peak decade, and the best artist of the peak era will be regarded in the different light than those who weren't part of it. there's a rawness that came with the artist that break throught the late 80's and 90's taht you can't recapture. kendrick, j cole and drake will never have that in their music, they a are way too clean, but because the era they do music in is too, and it's not their fault.

and I also think those who put kendrick above nas didn't really listen to nas disography like that, because if they had, it you be a no brainer, no matter what your age is

Disagree. i think Kendrick is great at making songs and putting together entire projects. Music is a sum of many different parts, Kendrick has a great discography, and yes, benefits from it being shorter with all projects consistently well above average. Nas has a few projects that weigh his discography down. I can easily see how someone could put his discography over Nas’s, everyone ain’t judging just based on lyricism.

For someone who been listening to nas since the 90’s, there’s a different real time experience that goes into looking at his music. But sitting someone down who never heard either of them and having them listen to both discographies, wouldn’t surprise me in the least if someone picked Kendrick.

Everything Kendrick gets praise for rapping about Nas been rapping about twenty years prior so literally NOTHING Kendrick touches on is new or innovative.

Kendrick gets praise for concept albums. Nas was literally the KING of mainstream concept albums from 04-10 (Streets Disciple, Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled, Distant Relatives)

Kendrick gets praise as a storyteller. Nas wrote an entire song BACKWARDS. Nas got stories connecting from song to song across full albums. Nas wrote a song from the perspective of the word N i g g e r. And so on and so forth

Literally everything Kendrick excels at Nas has done BETTER several year before Kendrick ever picked up a mic

Its literally mathematically impossible for Kendrick to have more classics than Nas. Nas last album was the most critically acclaimed rap album of 2022, THIRTY YEARS after his debut and ya’ll nikkas want to debate if KENDRICK LAMAR can compare to Nas!?!?!

The notion is laughable

let me tell you. maybe it's a personnal opinion, but there's a certain agression that comes from nas delivery at times that I never felt with kendrick. nas can make a song talking about guns with jadakiss, then make a song about his daughter, then a song with k naan about black struggle then a bragadocious song with rick ross. I never seen that range with kendrick (mayble we will see in 10 more years). and then theres is the ny swag, people at that time wanted to emulate nas, his hair style, his clothing, his jewelery, his low key confidence (pause :russ:)

and most important when we talk about lyricism, it's not just about the complexity of the rhyme, it's also about being able to do anthems and catchy hooks, recognizable songs that ring off on stage. even eminem got thoses. kendrick in my opinion lacks in that departement. he can't win a versuz against ja rule for exemple while nas can. his songs are good but too mellow. when nas got things like "they shootin, I made you look, you a slave to a page in my rhyme book..." or start a song with " it ain't to tell, i excel then prevail, the mic is contracted i attract clientele"... it's not super complicated it's lyricism in form of nusery rhyme but more complex. but that's the type of thing that put you on another level and differentiate cats like lupe canibus, royca da 5 9, black thought to cats like nas, jay or eminem. kendrick to me is the rapper that will please the professionnals because he's that clean, but he don't have the rawness in him. the main reason he got this big is because he have the machine behind him

and like @Ziggiy said, everything kendrick does, nas is doing better, albums, presence, voice, concept, stage, delivery, flow, battles, sales

Ain't even a discussion

Set aside Illmatic and GKMC

After that Nas got about a half dozen projects I'm taking before anything else Kendrick done even entering the conversation

Anyone that'd really rather listen to S.80, TPAB or Damn over IWW, Stillmatic, God's Son, Lost Tapes, LIG or Magic that's cool I will just accept we got very different taste in music :mjlol:

If you think you can compare illmatic to GKMC your ears are fukked up. Them shyts are far apart as the east is from the west. GKMC shyts on that garbo.

It's better than IWW too, but that's closer. Duckworth has eclipsed Nas with just 4 albums, 2 of which are mid.
