i agree to a certain extent

also i think alot of these "leaders" have their own personal agendas in our city

it seem like everything has to have some type of personal gain from it
people dont do it just cuz anymore

my uncle be kicking it wit me and he be tellin me how when he gets these Nike,Mcdonalds sponsors for the camps...its a million people tryna get in his pocket for some bullshyt but once they get paid they dont wanna show up or they true colors come out

the last 3 years he just been using young dudes and college nikkas that hoop to come to the camp cuz it seem like parents/actual coaches/trainers always have they hand out cuz they got some kind of title
Breh this a put some money in my hand, under the table city.
I just met with a client today that came to my office, because he figured the only reason I wasn't talking about some sneaky sh1t earlier, is because people people were around.

Kids are a commodity around these parts: n1ggas try to make cash off people attempting to do good things for kids, Nearly every woman I know has a income that surrounds the children, Even the State is getting in on the action by paying people big bucks to monitor our school budgets but not increase academic standards.

I paid a n1gga 150 for a camp.. and so did everyone else for their kid, and the n1gga hasn't been heard from.. I can't hate on all this sh1t though, because it's hard not to only be out for yourself in an environment like this.

Used to be a part of a couple of activist groups a few years back.

Once I sold my soul to big business, I became a Big Sister to a little brother. The process was terrible and unprofessional. In the end, they paired me with a young 8 year old boy whose family moved from West Africa. His father was a politician back there and they were very well off, but the parents divorced and the mom moved to the States. When I met the mother, she told me that she doesn't want her kids to be paired with Black people, she only wants them to be paired with Asians and white kids, and if I spend time with her child, I should spend all of it tutoring him only. She did not want me to take him to any athletic events or watch movies with him.

When I showed up at his house to pick him up, it was a huge house in a nice area. She had luxury vehicles in the front, and she was being supported very well by her old white sugar daddy fiancee, who works in South America for 7 months out of the year.

I tried to take ole boy to a museum, and she wouldn't allow it, she was very forceful that I be a free tutor and drill her son and that is why she got into the program to begin with. I let my match counselor know several times that this was not what I signed up for, but she was a hot mess and very disorganized. She later left and I got paired with another counselor, who couldn't get it together. I got invited to the kid's birthday party, he got $1200 in spending money and brand new gaming equipment on top of a very lavish bday party. I quit the program shortly after.

Im not saying that BBBS is typically like this, in fact I know that they are a great organization. This was just my experience, and I didn't have the patience to deal with their staff again to get placed with another little. The other Big Sisters paired with that family also got placed with other littles.

Well, what community are you speaking of?

I sponsor some children in Africa through world vision. It's really difficult to know if you're resources are being used appropriately with world wide organizations... so I do some local sh1t when I can.

I'm Muslim, I don't do anything through Islamic organizations, because I want all of anything I have to go to black or African communities and I haven't found real Islamic organizations that do that.

I'ma need you to go into more detail about this.

Philadelphia has a huge muslim population. You could search there.

Your African sponsorship probably directly aids someone of muslim faith too,

I participate in free health fairs, mainly in West Africa and South America (Nigeria and Guatemala to be specific). I'll likely do one again next fall.

Do you help with set up/planning or is an organization you're with one of the presenters?

I'm on the planning committee currently for the health fair my job is hosting in May. Could use some ideas/strategies for the next one.

i do a mentoring program of sorts with a focus on basketball and church. We get a "traveling team" together from various schools in Phoenix, we take them around the country playing ball and basically we use basketball as a tool to reach kids to teach them about God. From there as they progress through school we put them through college. (yes christian college) I actually went through the program myself.

(side note: we should still start an HL scholarship fund...)

I do cringe at these activities, but as long as you're not teaching by damning them to hell, I couldn't care less.

What do the kids have to do to receive help for school?

I'm lazy. I look at and support things that come my way, and the Christian one seemed good because you can go visit the children if you want - And yes they are Muslim and they write you letters, which is an added bonus. But the downside is that they wont be Muslim for long - due to these Christian groups not giving aid without a Biblical message. And it's easy to convert people when you give them clean water, books and goats.

I don't like anything about the city of brotherly love. I don't have time to filter through all the Freeway Muslims that plague that city.... so I just donate locally to random sh1t and give bums on the street change. There's an old lady that's at the gas station by my house every day for the last few years--- she's like "young brotha.. blah bla" That old bish prolly got like 45 dollars worth of change outta me so far.

Hows your Arabic bro? Would you consider relocating to Lebanon or Ingushetia? I think I could help you find some causes worthy of your acumen and skill set.

The company I work for is real involved with charity work. I am involved in the companies charitable group. I donate money every pay check to the United Way. This weekend we will be holding our Earth Day festivities. The company I work for is in a rough area so we go around and clean up the neighborhood. We plant gardens, cut peoples lawn, clean the streets, etc... and have a big cook out for the neighborhood. One of my favorite events of the year so I'll be out there helping out then after that is over we will be doing Bowl for Kids for Big Brothers Big Sisters that same day. This friday we will be cooking up fish and shrimp tacos to raise money for the March Of Dimes and then on the 20th we will do the March For Babies at the park. I also do cook outs at least three times a year for the Ronald McDonald house. I'm also very involved in Breast Cancer Awareness month and do the Susan G Kolman Race For Life. Plus other events as they come up throughout the year, but those are the major ones I get invovled with every year. My wife and I love doing volunteer work and try to take every opportunity to get involved that we can. It gets hectic at times but the sense of accomplishment and knowing you have helped to make a difference makes it all worth it.

This is the busy season for volunteer work here.

What do the kids have to do to receive help for school?

They have to attend the university we send them to :manny: many go on bball scholarships and while they are there we expect them to attend church and be involved in the community, we're to the point where we have the older ones looking out for the younger ones and showing them "the ropes" if you will

The program in and of itself for the kids is a huge commitment though. We practice every day, if you're late you can't play for the week. 2 weeks prior to our tournament play if you don't show up to a practice you don't get to go, there are kids who opted to go to their prom instead of come to practice...they didn't get to go... the idea was to show them that there are choices and consequences, we require the kids to have their teachers fill out grade reports and a C average or better is a must. :manny:

No excuses either lol. I remember when i was playing back in the day my coach, the guy who founded this program, was upset because we kept getting fast broke on by some dudes from NC. He called a time out and said, "if they get another fast break because we don't get back don't bother taking the ball out everyone needs to just stop get on the floor and give me 20 fingertip pushups". Sure as shyt 2 plays later in front of a rather substantial crowd there we go doing fingertip pushups while the ref counted out the ball. ahhh good times.
