thats sick @MeachTheMonster i used to tutor kids in the summer in HS and it definitely made a difference on the test scores at least. those ghetto ass kids had some lip tho. on the 4th of july this chem teacher i was d working with asked everyone to raise their hands and tell where they were going on vacay. i raised my hand and this kid goes "oh he goin to afghanistan" :dead::deadmanny::deadrose: couldnt even be mad at that cism :heh:

Yeah they are a mess, but they don't know any better. It's amazing how they repond to me and genuinely want to do/be better once they feel they have an outlet and an adult that cares.

It started out with me just going to the schools and talking to the kids about music and the arts(you know everybody wants to be a rapper) and its evolved into a full blown tutoring/mentorship program. I have kids calling me on the weekends just to talk cause they were thinking about doing something stupid. It's hard work sometimes, especially since I still have my own family to take care of. But it's very rewarding and worth it when I see the kids working hard torward being responsible adults.

Do you do anyway? Teach lil kids wresting or something?

Speaking of your charity online is Ok, due to you not knowing these people and them not having an effect on ur life whatsoever.

Jesus said, "At my Father's direction I have done many good works. For which one are you going to stone me?" :smh:

I do stuff, to help people. I think we just have to be careful with our intent when we talk about charity. The Lord knows where our heart is when we talk about our good deeds. Just something to be mindful of, friend.

ok. Has to be difficult getting funding since Lebanon left, lol.

that black youth community sh1t is the most difficult thing to do, period. You're torn because you want to see them do better, but you know for sure some have influences at home that you can't fight against.

I took a break because of my own families needs... and because the community sorta works against you in Detroit.

I work at a domestic violence agency mentoring the kids in the shelter and teaching battering courses for abusers. I just got snatched up by another organization though, so i'm actually about to leave in a few weeks and at my new place i'll be going to homeless shelters (hopefully my old one included) around the city and teaching kids on chemical dependency, peer pressure all that good stuff. These are things I'm PAID to do though :ld: I've been wanting to join big brothers/big sisters for the longest though. I got alotta knowledge I could drop on one of these young boys out here :whew: I feel like I could be one of the best in the city :myman: i'm just busy right now, but i'll join in time.

i agree to a certain extent

also i think alot of these "leaders" have their own personal agendas in our city

it seem like everything has to have some type of personal gain from it
people dont do it just cuz anymore

my uncle be kicking it wit me and he be tellin me how when he gets these Nike,Mcdonalds sponsors for the camps...its a million people tryna get in his pocket for some bullshyt but once they get paid they dont wanna show up or they true colors come out

the last 3 years he just been using young dudes and college nikkas that hoop to come to the camp cuz it seem liek parents/actual coaches/trainers always have they hand out cuz they got some kind of title

Yeah people's priorities are all fukked up. I coached a summer league basketball team a couple years back and it was relatively easy to find sponsors.

Now when I go around and tell people I'm working on tutoring and mentoring inner city kids I stay getting the :childplease: look.

We only recently started getting some funding because one of our students has been doing a lot of performances and gaining some popularity around the city.

Ask for money for education and they look at you sideways. But they'll fund something if they think they can put their logo on the side of a helmet or on a poster. Little do they know educating our kids is the single most important thing when it comes to the economic success of our comunity.

i do a mentoring program of sorts with a focus on basketball and church. We get a "traveling team" together from various schools in Phoenix, we take them around the country playing ball and basically we use basketball as a tool to reach kids to teach them about God. From there as they progress through school we put them through college. (yes christian college) I actually went through the program myself.

(side note: we should still start an HL scholarship fund...)

on a giving back tip i always try to help people i see in need. About a week ago i bought some dude and his fam about $500 bucks in groceries after he asked me for some change out front of walmart... :manny:, my wife is the same way, sometimes she'll call me and be like, "i just gave some lady 100 bucks"

I know what it's like to struggle so when I see someone going through that and I
can help i do and then some.

Ever since i was homeless i've taken this passage to heart:
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

also this has always spoken to me too
