Does Elden Ring, Sekiro & Bloodborne Even Count As "New IPs"?

Those From Software games are treated even by fans as if they're all in the same series hence the name Soulsborne. They just made up a name to tie them together because technically they aren't the same IP but they also aren't that far apart.

Its because they are made by the same person. Just like how Death Stranding and Metal gear share a lot of similarities/mechanics

They are fundamentally different games that aim to do different things, hence them being different IP

Shigeru Miyamoto made Zelda, Mario, Star Fox, F-Zero and Pikmin. Nobody would confuse any of those games as being the same IP. All made by the same person so no that isn't it. Those Soulslike games all have a similar design DNA to them. If you like one of them there's high probability you'd like the others. Pick any of those Miyamoto games and liking any one of them doesn't tell you anything in relation to the others.

When a developer continues to make the same style of games like From does you'll have people react that way. To the casual person they all look the same.

Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean, and Final Fantasy are all JRPGS from Square Enix. They don't really play or look much alike for the most part.

FromSoft literally just swap settings with the same ol' Souls gameplay and call it a day :beli: lol nEw Ip!!!!

bloodborne -victorian london
sekiro - feudal japan
elden ring - medieval europe...again

it's like saying each assassin's creed game is a new IP since they swap settings, and iterate on the gameplay about as much as the soulsborne games do :mjpls:

Imagine not knowing what an IP is and loudly showcasing your stupidity online rather than looking it up.

Not only that, the gameplay of these games are fundamentally different and are built entirely different mechanics. They only play alike in the most superficial of aspects. It’s like saying Destiny and Halo are the same IP because of superficially similar mechanics.

The gameplay is the same.

Just like final Fantasy games have all that “new” stuff but are still considered the same IP

Lmao no, it isn’t. You can’t even play them the same. Sekiro literally requires you to learn how to party and use the deflect with the sword. The gameplay is built entirely behind the posture mechanic and maneuverability. If you had the ability to jump and traverse the world of Bloodborne, it would completely destroy the level and enemy design of the game.

Like there is no way that someone could have beaten Dark Souls and Sekiro while saying they have the same gameplay.

It’d be like saying Street Fighter and Granblue are similar games because they’re 2d fighters with command moves. Or Necromunda is the same IP as Doom or Rage.

i can undertand why you feel that way, but sekiro is very different in combat. only thing these games have in common is genre. mechanics differ.

and in terms of intellectual property, bloodborne's story and some of its characters are some of the best in the medium and dont rely on any of their other games.

i do think that after they give us a BB2, they need to make a totally different type of game, like a puzzle game or something, LOL

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Sekiro is like an advance version of Tenchu. They even had a Tenchu mod for it. Playing that and playing Bloodborne is WAY different. U don’t even do the same things. That’s like saying Silent Hill and Resident Evil are the same IP.
