Rodman was DPOTY twice and was an all-NBA first team defense selection 7 times
Rodman won those DPOY awards in 1990 and 1991 - where he created his defensive reputation by guarding most positions on the court. He wasn't the same defensively in Chicago. He wasn't guarding perimeter players and he spent most of his time crashing the glass, and developing into more of a post defender. He didn't have the lateral quickness or ability to chase Draymond off the 3-pt line (or anybody else for that matter) during his Chicago years.
As I said before, Draymond would have a harder time against the late 80s/early 90s version of Rodman. He'd have his way with the Chicago version of Rodman. Furthermore, Thompson is one of the best bigs at defending out on the perimeter, he's better than mid/late 90s Rodman in that department, and he's more familiar with dealing with 3-pt orientated offenses - whereas Rodman isn't.
thompson hasn't even gotten ONE VOTE for an all defensive team, and I'm talking both first and second team. to compare the two...shyt why not compare glen robinson to jordan while you're at it
See now, you don't know what the fukk you're talking about. You clearly have no knowledge of Rodman's defensive abilities in Chicago and are just regutatiting the same tired nostalgic bullshyt that's been said in this thread. Rodman was in his mid/late 30s in Chicago and no longer had the lateral quickness to defend wings/guards on switches or circle around the perimeter - Thompson has just entered his mid-20s and has superior lateral quickness.
Mid/late 90s Rodman wouldn't be able to do what Thompson did against the Warriors on the defensive end (hedging/trapping out on the perimeter, closing down driving lanes, switching on Curry/Klay/Iggy etc etc) - it's as simply as that.
