By Any Means
The release of his debut album did him in. But he has release sone classic tracks and some unbelievable mind bending shyt. U can't take the away fom him.
It really sad when Canibus gets flak for using scientific and historical metaphors in his rhymes yet other rappers that talk about gettin' booty/money/cars and using simplistic rhymes are considered dope.
But the thing is... it doesn't matter what a rapper raps about at the end of the day. The execution of it can make good rhymes out of even a simplistic topic. I think rappers like Canibus tend to get a pass BECAUSE he prefers to rap about shyt like the Human Genome Project and whatnot... when it doesn't necessarily make him any better than anyone else, because a wack nikka's a wack nikka no matter what his subject matter is. I just think it's funny to point out Canibus' science references and shyt cause even with all that "knowledge", his music is still wack as fukk and he's a chore to listen to.
He doesn't get a pass, because he WAS a great lyricist. I bet 99 % of guys trash talking about the notepad and sayin' he raps about dinosaurs never heard more than 10 tracks from him.
And by the way - POET LAUREATE PART II. Close thread.

Nas said that Canibus and Big L were the only artist he ever feared. Nas didn't have the guts to rap along side him on the Firm track desperados.
Canibus was Pun's favorite emcee and he tried MANY times to work with him according to Fat Joe but Canibus kept playing him out.
Eminem has said he was influenced by Canib us and even went to a Canibus video shoot to meet him and Canibus dismissed him.
Ras has said in the pass that Canibus is a rapper he would scared to battle.
G Rap and Canibus have done several songs together and there was talk of a them doing an entire album at one point.
My point is that Canibus in his prime was equal or greater to the artist you named and that's judging by their actions.
The first album wasn't garbage by any means. It has a stigma that the beats aren't good but to call it garbage is a stretch. Second Round K.O. and Buckingham Palace are both classics and Free from 106 and Park is featured on it for whatever it's worth.
His next album has a cult following and continues to span battle rappers. The battle scene wouldn't be what it is if it was for that album. It is ground breaking because he did 100 bars which began that concept, it featured Rakim and the Horseman for the first time.
C True Hollywood story was a good album but not a good Canibus album and not on the hills of 2000 bc. People don't say it was bad on purpose people say it was a satire of either Eminem's prior album, Hip Hop in general or both. There are some good joints on that album.
Micclub is ground breaking, there were 1,000 bars on it, G Rap was featured, he took Hip Hop in a academic/scientific level, the production was decent and he answered Eminem on Dr. C Phd which Chuck D said was one of the best tracks released that year. That is an album WU members said they listen to before the go out on tour.
His next album Rip The Jacker is considered a classic by many. Poet Laurette 2 has to be one of the greatest songs of all time and Stoupe's production is almost flawless. It was also the end of the trilogy which started with C True Hollywood Stories (Germaine Williams), Micclub (Canibus), Rip The Jacker (Rip The Jacker).
Since then he's released other albums and is about to drop 10,000 bars that can be mixed with his previous albums to make new songs. Everything rhymes and when mixed so you literally can makes an infinite amount of songs but mixing the vocals and whatever interval you choose. He has inspired alot of the current and past rappers of the day who routinely give him props for his technical skills as an emcee. He teaches others how to rhyme if you want to get to the heart of the issue. You may not like what he rhymes about but you would have to be a hater to say he can't rhyme or hasn't advanced lyricism. Give this man his props already he's earned it!

nicest rapper youe ever heard? like this is what Im talking aboutFirst of all, thread starter has no idea what he's talking about. Secondly, i dont think you know what a pass is.Who's giving canibus passes? You acting like he's not on the ground floor of the underground rapping his heart out. Lil Wayne verses out here sounding identical to Eli porter verses and people pretending he's some nice lyricist. That's a pass. Thirdly, he's been on a solid album run since true Hollywood stories, if you not hearing the lyricism its because you not listening or arent smart enough to comprehend it.
Anyone who actually understands rapping from a technical standpoint knows how great canibus is. Regardless of his obvious bipolar mental issues. Dude is the nicest rapper I've ever heard. Even his shytty songs will have a few lyrical gems in them.
Other artists opinions dont mean shiiit to me honestly. I could easily find you those artists giving props to wack rappers.
I dont know why Nas would be "scared" when the verse that was supposed to be on Desperados by Nas was BETTER than Canibus verse, Nas wasnt on the song cause of label issues, they didnt want him on more than a certain number of songs. Unlike when Nas changed his verse for John Blaze.
For you to even mention Canibus in the same breath "equal or better" than G Rap, Nas, Pun is a fucckin joke. You the exact stan Im talking about, thanks for being a good example.
