Does Beyoncés overall greatness make people forget about her great singing capability??

No it doesn't contradict the rest of my post. For starters, Aaliyah had two to five year breaks between albums with soundtrack singles in between.

stopped reading right there. especially when I saw an essay following it.

I'm not going in circles with you about Aaliyah anymore. youre already regurgitating the same faulty arguments from the previous 10 threads. and I bet youre embellishing her sales in this post like you normally do. and I already shut that down ahead of time in the other thread yesterday, and you sat silent.

plus, this thread isn't about her.

Aaliyah had that Janet Jackson swag. Not a great vocalist but an all around great performer. Beyonce is a different breed of entertainer. But one thing Aaliyah had was Missy and Timbaland.

hell no.

Aaliyah couldn't perform for chit.

janet cant sing but she was a legendary performer with legendary nationwide tours. basically what beyonce is now.

Janet made better music than Whitney. I only love one Whitney song. U give good love.

ehh whitney is darn near a different genre altogether.

she made torch music for our grandmothers and chit.

I just appreciate the vocals, and aside from a few joints here & there like "u give good love", I keep it moving.

Ya'll kill me with that "her voice lacks soul" noise. If you're a fair and balanced music critic I can respect and dig it, but a lot of people I hear say that sound just like the folks in the late '80's who had the same critique of Whitney so it just sounds like history repeating itself. See how silly that sounds 30 years later? Ironically enough, and I won't name no names, but a lot of our favorite artists that have so much "soul" in their voices can't actually, technically sing, they just sound good, which ain't a knock on them, just an observation that often goes unchecked. They get exposed when they try to sing a standard like The National Anthem or a ballad with no runs. I'll take a rich, consistent tone and harmony over redundant vocal inflections and runs any day of the week :manny:

she lacks style & pizazz.

if you want to her clear/technical singing, then go to a glee club recital.

she knows she has to dance her ass off for a reason.:takedat:

As a man, what songs do you vibe with?

Personally, I think Me Myself And I is her dopest song.

But what are y'all vibing to? throw me some tracks.

Y'all ride for her......throw me some tracks, then.......throw me some tracks

I used to like destinys child. especially when latoya & latavia was in the group. I was dam near a stan during that debut run.

once that bootylicious bullchit blew up, I lost interest.

most of her stuff isn't bad. its just that after a few listens to her songs, I'm good and I don't need to hear them again for the rest of my life. sorta like most of usher's stuff.

theres only a few solo joints by her that stuck with me. I still stop what I'm doing when I hear "so in love". but then j.cole comes in and ruins it, so I never make it thru the whole track.

.

Should she double down on the style and pizazz then? Apparently she's going about it all wrong huh? Probably the most authentic pop star in history but she lacks pizazz. nikka...

:patrice:Did Aaliyah even go on a real tour? What performances you talking about? Where's that legendary awards show performance? I keep hearing this about Aaliyah and I was in college when she was at her peak(95-00) and don't remember seeing her live or remember any great performances...

last I checked, we were comparing beyonce to r&b artists. not pop.

most pop singers suck.

you must be young and/or have low standards.

you don't even have to be from that era man. the internet is your friend. stop believing in these myths.

you can go look up every TV performance Aaliyah did, and see how shabby she was in comparison to most of the other artists that performed on the same shows.

that kid youre quoting, clearly wasn't around. hes just under the assumption that she was a great performer because of the huge myth that was built around her, after her unfortunate death.

only big tour I know she was on is the Budweiser superfest from '97. and it was the general opinion that she had by far the weakest set.

the bill was:
mary j blige
bone thugs
dru hill
Ginuwine
Aaliyah.

bone thugs clips from it are on youtube, titled "the art of war tour".

Breh Im 35 was there when back n forth came out. My opinion aint a myth. She was popular for 3 reason. Her swag..her undeniable music..and her personality. Her voice was decent but her dancing skills and stage performance was always on point. Would she have eventually fell off when Beyonce blew...absolutley..but even Beyonce looked up to shorty. Give props when its due..

If you stopped reading, why even reply? :laff: at me writing essays when you're multi-quoting 2-3 posters about Aaliyah.

I don't embellish anything. If I'm posting something about sales, I give you the link to verify what I posted.

Breh, you didn't shut down anything. You didn't even reply. You pretty much relied on another poster's perception (which could've easily been debunked) and abandoned ship with the "stopped reading" response.

You've created at least two different screen names to discredit Aaliyah and everyone associated with her. The obsession is real.

And yeah, everyone knows the thread isn't about Aaliyah, but that hasn't stopped you from talking about her, now has it?

I don't care how old you are.

I said you must be young AND/OR you have low standards. cuz she was never considered a good performer.

and like the homie said, if she was such a great performer, where are the great tours? what are her notable performances at award shows or at least tv shows?

when dude brought that up, that's when you were supposed to provide some sort of evidence........we're still waiting.

I'm not even sure what youre talking about in half of this post. lol.

I'm at the point where I stop reading your posts on familiar topics. don't act like this is the only one. you argue out ya ass too much for me. and then you disappear when you get in the hot seat. case in point, I tagged you for that silk thread and you didn't show.

lol. you think I created a separate account just to diss Aaliyah?

and who are all these people associated with Aaliyah that I discredit? only 2 people I can think of are timbaland & missy. and I don't discredit them, I just put their rap stuff in its proper perspective. I never have anything bad to say about them on the r&b side.

Dude it took Beyonce almost 12 years after she got on to reach "B" status. Aaliyah died in her prime. Her last album was supposed to be her break through album into adult diva hood status. She died before that dream could come true. Takes nothing away from her legacy. She didnt have headlined world tours because she was at the cusp of mega stardom. Had she not died there is no telling where she would be right now.

Aaliyah DID fall off, and beyonce had already blew past her beforehand.

and of course beyonce looked up to her. aaliyah was a teen singer that blew up when beyonce was prolly a few years younger & was aspiring to be a teen singer. I'm sure she looked up to most of the teen singers at the time. that cht is automatic. lol.

theres rappers in my age range that looked up to dudes like ABC & kriss kross, and were prolly inspired to rap by them. does that mean that they are goats?

LOL. either youre lying about your age or r&b just isn't your thing. which one is it? you aint gotta lie to kick it breh. just be real instead of wasting my time.

lol @ it taking beyonce 12 years to reach "B" status. lol. what?

Aaliyah was in the game 7 years and PAST her prime before she died. and yet, you still couldn't drop not one clip to back up your statement about her so-called great performances.

also, beyonce had already lapped Aaliyah before she died. she was much bigger than Aaliyah in 2001. hell, she passed Aaliyah up with that "writings on the wall" album in 1999, which was just year two.

listen man, Aaliyah was a propped up minimal talent that made some great singles and had a cool lil style(that wasn't even original). we liked her for what she was, and she peaked with her 2nd album. she was never taken seriously as a force to be reckoned with or a future goat or nothing like that. this idea that she was on the verge of being some sort of r&b juggernaut is revisionist kid mess.

and again, please post some of these great aaliyah performances. SHOW THE TAPES. destinys child had already had plenty of notable performances back then, including their own special on FOX. but let yall tell it, they were trailing behind the great unstoppable force known as aaliyah.

I don't even think she seeing Christina Aguilera vocally.

I think beyonce is a good singer.

Her dancing is overrated tho. I don't consider shaking your hips wildly as dancing.:yeshrug:
