Does anyone here actually pray?

Honestly, we have all been there OPTIMO. I believe that it is okay to question and come to your own conclusions. I can think of two times in my life where I just didn't think it was right to pray (because I was doing wrong or because of doubts). Those are actually the times that you need to embrace it rather than run from it. It's easy to pray when you are doing right because there is no shame, but you actually have to humble yourself and reflect when you are praying in the mist of doubt or wrongdoing.

That is also why it is important to pray for growth and wisdom rather than material blessings.

Yeah. That's what Jesus said, "People in health don't need a physician, but the ailing do." When you're feeling not well, that's the best time to seek some help.

I've had people ask me to pray for them...I tell them "I will, but YOU pray for you, too - because it will mean more coming from YOU."

And you will be more likely to do it the more you get used to thanking God for all the things that are working out already...

I tried really hard to pray when I was younger. I thought it was going to work like some sort of magic spell when I first tried. When it didn't work I thought that I wasn't using the right tone of voice, so I tried again. Then I made sure I had the correct pauses as I was paying special attention to punctuation marks in the prayer book. That didn't work either. I looked around my room, and everything was completely quiet. I realized that not a damn difference was made other than that about five minutes had past and that I made some meaningless sounds in my room.

I stopped praying and started doing house chores for money until I could afford my Super Nintendo. I was 6 or 7 at the time, I think.

Weirdly enough, I was actually more reassured of how much control that I could personally have over the results of my actions, rather than having to rely on God to do it for me. Haven't tried to be religious since. I've pretended so I could bang a couple chicks, but I don't count that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those stupid-ass Neo-Conservative "You're on your own if you're poor" type of guys at all. I like to help when the chips are down because I'd want someone else to do it for me. Difference is that I'm real and can make a difference in the world. God isn't, and the only reason God has influence is because his followers are willing to die and kill and everything in between for their belief in his/her/its existence.

Generic humanist response, but hey, OP asked, and I answered. :yeshrug:

But when you're in a lifestyle where you know its hard to break off... It's hard to ask for god for forgivness when you made your own mess, and you most likely gone keep doing your own mess again. How am i gonna pray to god to forgive me for my sins when im gonna wake up and do the same shyt again? I dont wanna be a hypocrite, or a fake christian.

I'll meet god one day, and it's gonna be when im ready to meet him.

It sounds to me like you don't wanna "make the same mess again"...you gotta work in harmony with your prayers as well...

I'll say this though:

If you're trying to be Christian, God just wants you to do your best to be Christ-like...we can't be Christ. a lot of us are decent people, we're just bad Christs. You just gotta do the best you can.

exactly. prayer should be about asking god for the GUIDANCE to make yourself a better person. not asking him for "stuff". a lot of atheist have the wrong idea about what prayer actually is (should be) for christians.

Make sure you pray for your loved ones if cancer gets them or they get in an accident and see what the "higher power" does for you
