Did it feel like this season flew by at superspeed to anyone else?
And I know a lot of people complained that there didn't seem to be significant weight to the Big Bad or the stakes all season but I have to admit to being extremely happy that this season was just a bunch of episodic tales without any of that universe in danger stuff or any of the Companions being vitally important to saving reality.
Finally ordered the Blu-ray set of Tom Baker's first season.
Any reason why they jumped to his final season (Blu set releasing in March) rather than going in order?
4th: I've been tied to pillars by better men than you, Captain.
Captain: Ahhhhh.... but none so vicious!
4th: Vicious!? HA. *turns to the other tied up person, who's passed out* Don't panic, Kimus..... don't panic.
4th: You can't kill me while I'm helpless!
Captain: CAN'T I!?
4th: nooOOOooo you can't! Because you're a warrior! And itt's against the "Warrior's Code"! You should've thought of that before you tied me up! "
Naturally that made it the easiest and only story that could get a full HD upgrade and so it was the first Blu-Ray release. Bar the new extras, I can't see the point in these Blu-Ray sets.
I get that viewpoint but I had become so bored with the standard set up of the modern Who season that I found Chibnall's take on it refreshing. The series 11 soundtrack is coming out January 11. Definitely getting the theme for my iPhone!!!
For a series that has run as long as Who, the thing is that it needs to be memorable. And the best parts of this 13's first season weren't really about her? The Rosa Parks, Demons of the Punjab, and Kerblam were the standouts because of their real world connections(Amazon and universal income in the latter). It Takes You Away is the only outlier. The stuff I usually get excited about for the Doctor wasn't really there. The Tardis was just a box. The Doctor didn't face a threat that felt like it showed some different side of his/her personality. None of the villains were visually distinct.
It's like Chibnall had all the pieces but instead of building for impact he just kind of took a foundational route. That might be good depending on how he continues to build but for a not new character like the Doctor it's a bit of a chore.
