Just imagine if magic/shaq/Kobe had dwade/bosh/love/kyrie as teammates for 9 years :whoo:
Magic literally played with Kareem and James Worthy.
Shaq and Kobe had each other lmao plus Pau Gasol + Phil Jackson.
Kyrie and Love were known as injury prone and stat stuffers until they played with LeBron.
Everyone you named has played with elite talent in their career. Stop it.

I got no problem with that top ten list. It's a fair starting point for the conversation. Everyone on that list can slide up or down 2 slots for personal bias. Which puts lebron in the top 7 to 11 range which is where I have him ranked anyway.

Correct
It's actually a really great list :ehh:

He's Top 10 right now, 7-10 range off accomplishments alone but that Top 5 is for GOAT level players that shift franchises despite all odds.
They create cultures of winning with multiple championships and lift franchises from the dead.

Paul Pierce was spot on with his assessment.

how many rings, 50 win seasons, deep playoff runs did Cleveland have before and after LeBron

I agree.

That's why my argument is sound. He won more series than most of the players you include and people only hold his runner ups against him. when was the last time lebron lost and it wasnt in the finals? They lost more series than bron, but bron only gets hate for coming closer. That doesnt make sense.

We are talking about finals appearances and wins not regular season or playoff wins against trash teams. Finals are the great equalizer. That's what counts cause the east was weak. How do we know it was weak? Simple, Lebrons teams dominated the east but outside of the gsw collapse in 2016 they got destroyed in the finals in recent history. Other teams out west put up more of a challenge to the western champs in the playoffs so one could argue they would have beat lebrons eastern team too if they got through gsw or spurs in 2014. Bron got swept in 2018. Lost 4-1 in 2017. Lost 4-2 in 2015 and Lost 4-1 in 2014. Those were not even competitive series but you want to give him credit for that. I'd would give him more credit if he pushed those to 7 games but he didnt.

Yet people are putting up players who werent able to make it above him.
You're not even giving him credit for winning his rings? Lmao he didnt run away from cleveland. The organization was run horribly.
MJ retired from the bulls because they wanted to take away his HOF coach and get rid of pippen. He stated he wanted to go for 7 but he didnt because the organization fukked him over. That's in the same vein as running. If MJ is the goat he shouldve went for 7 with noone.

But he didnt and lebron shouldnt have had to drag that trash ass organization either. He left so he could build a legacy with an organization that wasnt a waste of space. Where was MJ without pippen? Lebron made it to the finals without wade at 24.

If bron doesnt get credit for his Miami rings why should kareem get 4 rings or kobe get his rings with shaq. At least LeBron was the best player on his team during those runs. If you are the best player on your team it doesnt matter if you have another good player. It's when you do some bullshyt like curry did and recruit people better than you is where the fault should be.

Lebron gets credit for his rings. He just doesn't get any extra credit. Bron can keep ALL his 3 rings. Its still less than the others in the top 5. BUT IF you want to discredit some of kobe's 5 rings or Jordans then you can make that argument to discredit brons 2 in Miami. So if all of brons rings count then all of kobes and everyone elses do too. You are the one trying to downplay the importance of winning chips cause that argument doesnt favor lebron being top 5.

No we wouldn't
He would have actually proved that his style of play and philosophy towards the game is the best.
He'd actually have a great argument for no. 2 but you can't be best of the best while losing on the highest stage as much as he has

This right here is the problem

Lebron was very good/great in 4 of his 6 finals losses (14,15,17,18)......He's being penalized for not winning despite performing at a high level.

Just to add on:

2007- Nobody expected Cleveland to make the finals,...Their starting SG Hughes got hurt during the Nets series. He gave Cleveland nothing in the Detroit series and only played 2 gms during the finals

Hughes play deteriorated after he got hurt:

First 8 gms: 18.6 pts
Last 10 gms: 5.7 pts

2015- Love was inactive for the ECF and Semifinals (Love sat out 16 of 20 playoff gms)...Kyrie was injured and sat out 7 out of 20 playoff games.

2018- Love only played 5 minutes in gm 6 and sat out gm 7 versus the Celtics.

Three moments in Lebron's playoff Career where he put the team on his back and carried Cleveland to the finals...But because he lost in the finals, people turn these 3 playoffs runs into negatives.

.

He aint getting penalized. He just doesn't get extra credit cause of it. Were not gonna use losses as an excuse to place bron higher than someone with actual wins.

Now a guy like Charles Barkley gets penalized in these type of top player list cause he went toe to toe with Jordan in 93 and was balling out of control. Even dropped 42 points in one finals game on Jordan and the bulls head. Barkely was the season mvp that year too over MJ but because he lost and never got a ring he doesn't get much credit. It is what it is.

Lebron's 3-6 finals record (and 2011)) is the main argument against him......All I'm saying is that there needs to be a little more context.

Plenty of players have won more finals.

And if the finals are the be all and end all, you have to look at the finals in totality: only 2 players in the history of the game also have more finals losses than lebron (west, baylor):francis: That cancels out the "only 2 players have more finals mvps" argument.

3 other players also got 3 finals mvps with a better finals record (magic, td, shaq). So one could have mj, magic, shaq and td in their top 4. Add in kareem, russell, kobe, hakeem and bird in the mix, and it's pretty easy to see how one could have a top 5 without bron.

My only issue with this is the inconsistency of application: a)its okay to say Mike is better than someone with more rings, but we act like its preposterous to suggest LeBron is better than anyone with more rings; and b)how do we have a conversation about the greatest players of all time, while minimizing what guys did as lead dogs or secondary options?

It's a hard sell for me to say that guys who won fewer rings than LeBron in a decade plus as The Man, are better than a guy who proved he could win more as The Man. The same way some brothers in here aren't giving "extra credit" for whatever reasons, neither am I----->you don't get extra credit for winning more titles next to a better player than you. That's Kareem (1969-1981 as a #1), Shaq (1992-2005 as a #1), Kobe (2004-2016 as a #1), none of these guys did more leading a franchise than LeBron. Ain't nobody getting extra credit for getting lucky and having a better player lead you to more rings...

Lol @ "since he came into the league" when we're discussing a GOAT list. This isn't a "Greatest Players Since 2003" list. Where does his achievements stand in comparison to the other GOATs?

I guess my previous quote of yours is my response to this as well; the list of GOATs who accomplished more while leading a franchise is tiny, especially is "achievements" includes more than rings...

He’s got to be the only person who somehow loses legacy points for making it to the finals. If he was 3-0 in the finals, what would the argument be.

The argument would be "_______ made it to The Finals more"; "he could only go to The Finals three times in the shytty East", etc. No one gets the goalpost moved more than LeBron, there would be goalpost moving regardless, for him and for him only...

He’s a top 5 player fukk all the ring talk fukk all that stats bull shyt y’all fakkit ass nerds can have that shyt as A BASKETBALL PLAYER that nikka is fukking good from passing, his basketball IQ, ability to score in many different ways y’all talk that shyt like all he does is bulldoze his way in and dunk YALL fukk nikkaS know how hard it is to dunk in a game of basketball let alone in a half court set where he falls of as a player to me is the defensive end being able to sit down and play half court defense you can see he’s way past prime in that area he’s great off the ball can shoot and play the passing lanes well can block shots but he faded in terms of sitting down and locking up where as I’ve seen Kobe and MJ late in their careers still pick cats up half court and play hounded defense

My GOAT list and criteria is in your thread.

As for my post, I showed it's pretty easy to have bron outside of the top 5 "in good faith".

He got swept against the most stacked team in NBA history. I guess him jeff green and Larry Nance couldnt beat 5 all stars.
2017 again most stacked team in history.

In 2015 he lost kyrie and Kevin Love. Wtf. Jordan couldnt win a ring without hof teammates why is it not okay for Lebron to lose when all he had was Matthew delladova? Did you watch then? How can you consider that a detriment to his legacy?

Let me be clear, lebron isnt perfect. But you have to be fair. If you are going to hold a series against Lebron James, choose the Mavs series, not the one where he's lost his 2 best teammates or the ones where he's against completely stacked teams constructed specifically for the one goal to beat him.

And if were talking about east vs west. He just ran the west this year and let's not pretend the lakers arent at the very least hitting wcf and favored to go into the finals.

Also I don't know what you mean by extra credit for his rings. Lebron deserves credit for being the fmvp for his rings, what I dont give credit for is being a #2 or role player on a team for multiple rings and suddenly they're better than lebron. You can have 7 rings but if you're a Robin it's not nearly as impressive as what lebron has done.

How we really gonna say the east has been weak as shyt for 8 years straight? Every year these teams load up just to beat Lebron and they still cant do it. The bucks have their own version of lebron and they still cant do it. You can only play who's in front of you so we cant hold that over lebron.

So were just back to the root of the argument. Which is the value of making the finals.

When other players lose in the second round noone holds it against them and they can still be in the top 5.
When lebron goes to the finals 8 times in a row, he loses legacy points? That isnt rational. Larry bird can lose in the second round, never even sniff the finals, it's cool.
Lebron loses in 6 games without his 2 best players in the finals, wow what a choking piece of shyt.

Theres reasons to hate on LeBron, this is not the one.
