And to give you a response, someone had to lose, and I personally think he gave a better performance. I think the whole transformation he undertook is what elevated everything. Dude literally looked like he was on deaths door in a couple scenes. That doesn't take anything from Chiwetel's performance which was also great.

Better response. Thanks.

Starkset...
Thank you for a real response and answering the question. Explain if you can why u think so?

again not to discredit Chiwetel's performance at all b/c I think overall it was really great. I honestly should watch it again b/c I've only seen it once, but there were a couple scenes where I think he could have exaggerated his fear and pain a little more. I think he ever so slightly held back... just a little. Leo tip toed the line of almost overacting in some parts... but didn't quite go that far.. he held back just enough to keep it believable. Mathew struck that almost perfect balance. it was a joy to behold. I honestly think all 3 could have won the oscar in different years.....

John Thompson (and if anyone in here doesn't know who he is ) says that comparisons are odious and he's right. Anytime you have competition or start comparing one person to another, shyt sucks for one of them because someone is going to lose or look worse by comparison. Every performance this year that was nominated deserved to be nominated but there can only be one winner. Chiwatel, if he plays his cards right, will be back there and now he's on the national scene

I think Chi's character had to endure the emotional strife of anger, sadness, depression, rage, fear, joy, etc. I don't think he could have exaggerated it more because it would have made him over-act the actual person. Matthew is a very good actor I just think he can't go beyond certain character development like changing of the voices to make his characters sound different from each other. From Time to Kill to True Detective, his character falls exactly where he seems to be only allowed to fit in.

I thought Ejiofor gave the best acting performance of the year but McConoughey did a great job too so it wasn't so much a robbery as there were several performances this year worthy of winning the Oscar. Plus the sum of McConoughey's work in 2013 (MUD, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, TRUE DETECTIVE) helped to put him over the top for the win.

Ejifor was good but everyone other than dern in that category had a better performance IMO. and if hanks was in there as he should have ejiofor would have been the weak link.. i felt that movie was carried more by the story than his performance. however that last scene was really moving.

MM does NOT play the same character...I agree his voice does not change but he has that type of voice in the first place that lands him the part
