being a great actor or actress doesn't make some one A-List.
right now, there really aren't too many A-list actors/actresses out.

If that what men want remake makes bank I think we could consider her A-list.Serious question, do we even have A list Black actresses
I guess Taraji is close, but A list seems to be a stretch
Angela Bassett
I love Angela Basset just as much as the next breh....but, she's not on Streep level. Honestly, that's a tough standard. Streep's probably the greatest actress all time. But what is 'A' list for females in the industry? There are very few that could draw me as a viewer to go and see a film they headline. Sounds chauvinistic, but its just the truth.
Meryl Streep
Scarlett Johansson
Jennifer Lawrence
Sandra Bullock
Charlize Theron
and I guess...Julia Roberts
People, in general, tend to flock to theaters to see these chicks perform. Big reason is....the scripts that they accept are generally good. I doubt most authors and screenwriters write leading roles for books and big budget films with a black woman in mind. Which is why so many black actresses end up doing Tyler Perry movies or whatever roles supporting roles they can get. Why couldn't a black actress play Furiosa in Fury Road? Or play Hermione in the Potter series? Or played Vivian in Pretty Woman and had their career launched? Black actresses aren't thought about for roles like that. It may be changing....MAY BE...but the exclusion of black actresses on the "A-List" has a lot to do with variables like that in the industry.
Just my opinion.....
The obvious are Viola Davis, Angela Bassett, Halle (used to be Jada). But do you think of her in that same way? Or is she in that Regina Hall category to you? If so, which role defines her as an A list actress? On a side note she was on "Whats Happening Now". But when she was 227 that was my childhood crush.
I was just thinking yesterday about how trash young actresses are now. We really don't have a new crop of superstars. Who is one actress putting butts in seats under the age of 30? Jennifer Lawrence is probably it.I don't even think there is a true A-List aymore for actresses. Helen, Meryl are royalty, but they haven't been A-List in a long time. It was once Julia, Sandra Bullock, Halle, Anne Hathaway had a brief run..but there isn't really one these days.
Hell, the men barely holding on to A-List.
But she's barely B-List. She's carved out a niche as a consistent hard-working woman. She's slightly above character actor. She's probably the female Jeff Bridges.
