She’s right on the CUSP of A-List in cinema and has been putting in A-list quality film work since Ray.
She’s definitely A-List when it comes to Television. She’s a three time Emmy award winner and two time Golden Globe nominee. She kills all of her tv roles.
She’s probably going to be nominated for her first Oscar for her work in Beale Street.

she's deserving of it....but just doesn't feel like she's quite there yet......I hope this Beele Street movie puts her in Oscar talks tho....

I was going to ask the same question. My honest opinion is "No" and I don't think any are close to 'A-List'. I mean...really...there are no black actresses on the level of a Meryl Streep. That's not to say that none are as talented, but certainly none are held in as high a regard as her. That is in large part due to a lack of opportunity or limited roles.

If so, which role defines her as an A list actress? On a side note she wason "Whats Happening Now". But when she was 227 that was my childhood crush.

There are no A-list black actresses right now. A-list is Denzel and Will Smith. Viola Davis and Halle aren't even Don Cheadle/Larry Fishburne/Sam Jackson status. Regina King is a good journeywoman, like a black female William Fichtner or some shyt like that.

No. A list is someone who can be listed as the main draw in a movie, in other words you can sell a movie on their name alone. You talking folks like Tom Hanks, Denzel, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, etc.... You arent selling a move based strictly on Regina King's name.
