NYC as a whole is pretty much safe. I feel like people who watch the news all the time have fooled themselves into expecting and believing things that are not true. A city this big and with this much income disparity, things are bound to happen once in a while. Just like car accidents are bound to happen, but no one is paralyzed by fear of car accidents, are they?

And yes, you can walk through Brownsville at night. Just like anywhere else.

NYC is so huge.
You need to break it down to particular neighborhoods of particular boroughs to say where it is safe and where it is less safe.

As far as I'm concerned, it's all safe. I'm not too familiar with most of the Bronx, but I doubt the most dangerous parts there are too diferent from the most dangerous parts in Brooklyn, so I'll stand by my opinion.

You still have dangerous spots in NYC and spots where you have to know your surroundings but it's no where near what it was in the 90's. Even in the early 90's you had neighborhoods that were usually safe that had a lot of crime, and those were safe neighborhoods.

People exaggerate how dangerous NY is. I got lost hella times by Marcy Projects and all the white hipsters were very helpful. Some drunk bum did grab me though when I walked to the store to get some looseys but the little dopeboys were quick to help.

:heh: there are no got damn hipsters near marcy projects

but ny is much safer than the late 90's early - mid 2000's

The biggest reasons crime went down is because Guliani turned the city into a police state and the bigger reason, people saw what crack had done to the city. Every race was smoking crack. Everyone knows the South Jamaica's and East New York's and the violence that those areas saw. In white neighborhoods you didn't have the violence but you had a bunch of teenagers and 20 year old crack heads stealing cars and breaking into homes. The effect of crack hit the entire city and crime went through the roof. Everyone gives Guliani credit for lowering crime in the city but no one ever gives credit to the generation of kids that saw what crack did and stayed away from it.

They should stay off drugs period.

But i hear what you're staying tho. From an outsider looking in and listening to people and even through music talk about Guliani it seemed like he was a massive failure in all aspects. But crime going down has to be something to applaud him for if he did impact it even at a certain cost.

Dont get me wrong I understand that people have rights but if you have to turn a city into somewhat of a police state for the greater good and safety of the general population then that's what you gotta do. Sure there will be isolated incidents on police abusing the new boost of power given to them but still.

Too often we see people in our society letting certain behaviors become acceptable. It's NEVER acceptable for someone to get robbed. No matter how gullible they are or what dark alley they walked through while wearring a 10K watch. yeah you gotta take precautions but the GOAL should be for people to respect each other and each other's property. I hate arrogant cops too but mofos in the streets dont know how to act so you fight one evil with another

Yes there is, take the (G) Train to either the Flushing Ave stop or Myrtle Willoughby (The two stations that serve Marcy PJs ) and you see a LOT of white people breh.

I remember I got off at the Flushing Av stop a few months ago and I was the only black person that got off there :leostare:

Its safer. But lets not downplay things now. NYC aint some white people wonderland, like ya are making it off to be.

The predominantly black areas are still wild as ever. For instance I know ya heard about that shooting at the Rucker during their lil festival there all because of a bad call :snoop: . A couple of innocent kids died from that bullshyt. Also that shooting of that lil innoncent baby in the bronx a couple of weeks ago.
