Do you ever think about how powerful movies are?

Movies are...

  • Just movies, breh. Don't overthink it.

  • Quite strange if you think about it. More than meets the eye in that sense.

Ive been a movie head since i was a younging in the 90s going to see all the blockbusters with my friends and their parents. Its a great escape and i can turn off my logic and immerse myself in each film without it manipulating me becuase i know its just entertainment.

I witnessed people get cultish with flicks like this german woman i know who said her and her friends would have Pulp fiction movie get togethers :ohhh:

The Rocky Horror Picture show was non harlem classic and we all know what the Matrix influenced.

Stories and an appreciation of a shared narrative are huge motivators for people.

Birth of a nation was America's first blockbuster and was screened in the white house. What does that tell you about America at the time? It subsequently led to the Klan being revitalized and growing its membership significantly.

In the 80s seemingly every other week an action movie would drop about a military trained white man fighting thinly veiled representations of what the government considered communists. It's not a coincidence that Ivan drago was an opp so dangerous he literally killed the black man that rocky built his career off, also a subliminal message to black people "put your hopes in the AMERICAN white man. You can't represent America on your own. The real America is a cac" they're willing to subvert the internal logic of the film to prove a point(creed was a battle tested champion with far more years of experience than rocky)
Since you brought it up Birth Of A Nation is also, essentially, the origin of the American superhero :francis:

Again, the power of storytelling

Funny enough the Matrix is also a non Harlem classic:dead:

Interesting aspect, isn't it? The creator can mean one thing, the people perceive another but indirectly they offer a tacit stamp of approval for the original intent and its manifestation. Always read the small print because silence = consent in this realm.

I've often said that many movies (like life itself) are multilayered and there is the coarse for the profane then that which is placed between the lines for those with the eyes to see as well as the codes and symbols seen only by the initiates as they get the nod and wink and laugh at the joke that they're in on. In many ways you could make a compelling case that everything this world accepts as fact is closer to fiction and the flip reveals the truth in a way that only can be accepted as "entertainment".

That in itself is pretty insane but then humanity has proven, time and again, that its nuttier than a barrel full of monkeys on methamphetamine, ketamine and LSD:

Numb, disassociated and hallucinating.

This is exactly why entertainment is in many ways more effective and potentially more dangerous than formal education. Because with entertainment you let your defenses down and simply absorb the content.

Also it's why and how Black people are portrayed in movies, music, and tv shows matters more than the "it's not that serious" contingent think.

Thats an interesting point. Looking back it historically would you say that the image of Black people has been movie>reality or reality>movie in term of influence?

Makes one wonder who is actually steering these movements that wield immense influence and then go on to become the standard for the next generation to build (or regress) upon...

there is always a builder or guider for the next social norms/ styles etc.

The Devil Wears Prada admitted this in a flippant type of way.

Yes
My uncle told me a decade ago to stop going to the Cinema to watch films especially scary movies because how deep into the psyche they are able to embed

He made a valid point
If you scared, just say you’re scared.

But movies and any type of visual media is more influential than music. I was watching a white shark doc the other day, and this Australian dude said he wanted to start hunting white sharks after Jaws dropped. Not to mention, all of the people who wanted to get it like tony Montana from Scarface.
