I really don't think that the younger generations can appreciate how fukked workers were coming out of the 2008/2009 recession. I was doing like 20 job applications per day and only 2-3 companies bothered to notify me that they hired someone else. My job actually MINTED for years because they were hiring students with degrees to answer phone calls for $11/hr. As the company grew, these skilled workers were promoted internally, but since they started at such low wages, the company saved tens of thousands dollars per employee per year compared to the market rate.
As an 'older' millennial happy with the recent changes, I think a good analogy for the mindset of some older people is the idea of hazing... if you haven't experienced it, you can objectively say it's some bullshyt, but if you have gone through the fire and came thru on the other side, you mentally reframe it as something that "builds character", "made you stronger as a person" or some generic BS. It's more Stockholm syndrome than anything else, so I wouldn't take the disdain from older people seriously. These companies generally don't give AF about us, so get as much $$$ as you can and dip when you find something better
