Do y'all take this as Cam and Mase disrespecting Big L or being truthful?

I was gonna make a thread on this top 5 they got lol... I personally think using "Big L just didn't get enough time" as the reason why he can't be in your top 3 is weird considering you said you're thinking of cats you knew who were "dumb nice" but "didn't get a chance" and at the same time you got Juelz in your top 3 because "he got 200 songs out" when most of those songs are "my gun hotter than the stove is on, so hot even I thought the stove was on but the stove is off" level.

I mean, does it make any difference that Big L "didn't get enough time" when Trooper J is still alive but hasn't done much as far as music and you got him ahead of Big L in your list?

With that said, I'm glad Flea pointed out how Big L and Nas were in fact on the same label and everybody in real time could see where each one was headed, so cats can dead this "poor thing" narrative about dude as if Big L was this unfairly treated underground emcee who was gonna be Godlike if given a chance by the industry; it's like somebody said here the other day: if breh never died, him turning out like Mic Geronimo or some shyt is a lot more reasonable than him ever being on Hov's level or something like that.
It’s not about same label it’s about push and marketing

Nas had the dream team producers from what I’ve heard L shyt production wise was dated by the time it came out :manny:

Nas is just Nas he just got that ‘it’ factor. The voice, the look, the persona, the story, the aesthetic, and he came from a projects that was already established in hip hop

I was listening Star one day and some white boy caller kept asking him to talk about "guys like Big L and real hip-hop instead of Jay-Z."

I'll never forget Star's response. It completely changed the way I looked at these glorified street rappers like Big L.

He said, "what makes it REAL hip-hop, because he got killed? He's rapping about shooting and killing nikkas, that REAL STREET shyt!"

This was a long time ago and I haven't been able to listen to these genocidal dudes since.

Cam actually ended up putting trooper j ahead of him later on.

Also for swag raps - Wallo said Mase was first to do the brag raps in that way after they asked cam and mase was first and they both said big daddy kane and biggie took it to another level. Then it was clear that mase took it an even higher level than big on bragging in your face.
Cam and Mase both said Trooper J used to cook them and they wasn't better than him at the time. They said he was the type of nikka you wouldn't see for a couple years and ask him to spit a verse and be like "Yeah, nah this nikka is still dead nice".

So he might've been the rappers rapper from their area that everyone thought was the nicest. That actually happens a lot.

I knew someone would ask this dumbass question after that episode

- Cam was right. L got overrated after his death. Juelz has done more.

- Ma$e was also right to feel the way he felt. L thought Ma$e wasn't good enough, then Ma$e ended up being the hottest rapper in the game only a few years later.

It's not even disrespectful that they were cool with L's killer. Dude did what he had to do.

Yea, Big L was fukking nice but he got elevated after his death. No way was he on the level some of these "real hip hop" dudes be trying to place him at. He's just not in that Nas, Jay, Biggie, Pac, etc... class.

I still think all around Mase is the nicest rapper I've heard from Harlem.

Good point but I feel no matter what they said people would judge their list harsh.

I mean with L as they said, they were not trying to gas him just because he died although Mase clearly felt a way being left off his debut album so he may be bias cause you know Harlem nikkas and they egos. As for Trooper J he is someone who would spank them lyrically all the time so even though he has no output they felt he was that nice to really go far. They wanted to include a mix of known and unknown spitters it seems in order to give some dudes shine who never got that chance. Even though he died and made only one album he still is on their top 5 list so I don't get why people are mad lol.

I dont think it was disrespectful at all. Cam basically said that L just didnt have enough time to really leave a mark in the game (which is very true). Even his 1st album suffered from pushbacks and honestly sounded dated by the time it dropped compared to what else was going on. L is nice as fukk we know that but I think a lot of these nikkas who hype L to be top 5 is only doing it because its make them sound like they on some exclusive shyt. You got nikkas born in 2005 talking about "Big L was the goat" :francis:

Now mase said he basically felt a way because he was left off that album :russ: I remember years ago mase mentioned L was stealing some of his rhymes in an interview and he caught HEAT for that shyt.

To be honest I always felt cam & mase was getting the best of him on those old freestyles :manny: i would put them both above L for sure

you cant tell me L is touching either of them on these 2
